    1. [OHPORTAG-L] 1890 census
    2. Just an update here: I asked last week about the 1890 census rolls that I found at the library, since I thought they had all been destroyed by fire. Someone responded and said that it was a Civil War veterans' census. I went back there the other day and found out that is in fact what they are. The information tells what company and regiment they served in, when they enlisted and were discharged, total length of service, and what kind of injuries they suffered during the war. It does not tell the person's age or other family members (unless the vereran had died, in which case they recorded the widow's name, I believe). I was surprised to find one of my great grandfathers in this list-- apparently he served for all of two months in the war! If anyone is interested, these records are at the Akron Public Library in downtown Akron. Brian The End
