    3. This May line appears to have come from PA and been in Portage Co, OH before my line (of Hesse Darmstadt). I do not know if it was distantly related to mine, or just a totatlly different line. Do you know the parents of this John May? Naming pattern suggests English. Descendants of John May Generation No. 1 1. JOHN1 MAY was born December 17, 1799 in PA, and died January 23, 1862 in May's Prairie, IA. He married (1) MARY STONE February 12, 1822. He married (2) JULIANA DE HAVEN September 09, 1830 in Portage Co, OH, daughter of NATHANIEL DE HAVEN and LOIS BALDWIN. She was born Abt. 1811, and died April 27, 1897 in May's Prairie, IA. Notes for JOHN MAY: according to descendent Kimberly Stoffers [[email protected]]: John May was born in PA. He came to Iowa in 1852 and settled in Allamakee Co, where he lived until the time of his death. Notes for JULIANA DE HAVEN: Obituary: Died at her home on May's Prairie, Allamakee Co, IA, Sunday evening, April 27th, 1879, of chronic inflammation of the liver, Mrs. Juliana Wehinger, in her 86th year of her age. The funeral occurred at the late residence of the deceased, on Tuesday at 2:00 PM, and was very largely attended by neighbors and friends from different portions of the country. Dr. Ambler delivered the funeral discourse, and was followed with a few brief remarks by a German minister. The house was filled ot overflowing and the front yard packed with the listeners who were present to pay the last sad tribute of respect to one whom all ha honored during life, for her Christian virtues and noble womanhood. the remains were deposited in a grave on the farm where the deceased had resided for many years. Deceased was twice married--her first husband being John May, father to H.H. and R.C. May, of this village, who whom she emigrated from Summit Co, OH to Lansing, this county, in April 1952, and consequently, was one of the pioneers of the county. For nearly half a century the deceased had been an active and consistent member of the M.E. Church and up to the day of her death was zealous and steadfast in her religion.
