    1. [OHPort'ge] George Kline and Madelaine (Lena) Hoot
    2. Paul Hoot
    3. Looking for any information on this couple. Madelaine was born 3 Apr 1836 in Suffield Twp. and died 14 Sep 1918 in Suffield Twp. She was the daughter of Stephen Houde/Huth and Marie Anne Schmitt who immigrated from Alsace France and settled in Portage Co. in 1832. George and Madelaine applied for a marriage license in Summit Co. on 28 Jun 1861, however, no return was ever provided to the Summit Probate Court. No record is on file in Portage Co. as well.

    2. George W. Page
    3. This is in response to message in the archives about this subject written in Sept. 1999: I have the ancestry of Rachel CRAYS back several generations if anyone is still interested. I believe that Rachel and Ira were married prior to 1841, possibly in Edinburgh, where someone indicated they appear in the 1840 Federal Census. Rachel's father was Joseph Crays, b. in 1759 in Scotland, who appears in Barree Twp. of Huntingdon Co., PA, in 1790 & the tax assessment records of 1791, and in the 1800 U.S. census with 1 male and 1 female child under 10; and, the 1810 U. S. Census of Penn. in Mahoning Twp., Mercer Co. (now Lawrence Co.). He bought land in Milton Twp.,Trumbull Co., Ohio in 1816 next to Alexander and John Crays. This was two years after a John Crays bought land there in 1814. Alexander Crays was in Poland Twp. as early as 1804/6 (tax rolls). His son, Joseph Jr. bought land there in 1833. Joseph's farm was given to: sons Alex. & David (45 acres each) and wife & dau. Jane - 25 acres. He appears in U.S. census of 1830 and 1840 as living in Milton Twp. Trumbull Co., Ohio. I have written an unpublished book about the CRAYS' ancestry because my wife is a CRAYS and the second great grant niece of Rachel Crays.

    2. dennis
    3. I understand Caldwell Anderson was involved in the anti slave movement & the underground railroad. I was wondering if I could get more info on him. Also He had a niece Sarah Harris that married George McCormick. I'm not sure if that is the same Geo. & Sarah McCormick that appeared in the 1860 U.S. Census Ohio, Portage, Randolph twp. & could use some help there. I don't understand why the 3 youngest children in 1860 OH don't appear in 1870 MO unless the died in OH., IN. or MO. Dennis Here is a list of names I believe are somehow related to Caldwell Anderson: 1860 U.S. Census Ohio, Portage, Randolph twp. 1. [OHPort'ge] Lookup Request -- Earliest Ordained Women In American Congregationalism
    2. Doug & Chris Showalter
    3. Greetings, Perhaps someone on this list can help me? I am researching the earliest ordained women in American Congregationalism. One of those women was MRS. LYDIA I. JAMES who was ordained in the town of Lloyd in Portage Co., OH on November 12, 1900. Lydia's husband was Welsh Congregational minister, Rev. Thomas Illyd James. I am seeking a newspaper account of Lydia's ordination, in order to learn more about her. She likely was ordained by a Congregational council representing the Congregational churches in the county--or perhaps more likely, the Welsh Congregational churches. It was typical for such ordinations to be publicized in local and/or county newspapers. I would appreciate any information on this couple. I also welcome any suggestions as to additional resources I should check.. Thank you for your consideration, and best wishes, Rev. Dr. Doug Showalter
