a Miles Sheperd/Sheppard and a Phineas Sheperd/Sheppard are listed in Hudson/Northhampton twps. I have a Joseph Shepherd who migrated from NJ to PA to the Portage County area between 1800 and 1820. He had served in the NJ militia in the Revolutionary War and may have received land as a result. He had a wife and son after 1810. Her name was Sarah and the son was Ezekiel. They lived in the Portage and Trumbull Co areas long enough I suspect land ownership. Do you have any records of Joseph or family. Their spelling may have been different and it could be possible that he really had a different first name. Thanks. Doug Shepherd "Whether you think you can . . . or you think you can't . . . . Here is the link to my page. Many of my ancestors, aside from the Rhineharts, are from Portage county and the surrounding area. So if anyone else is interested in checking it out, here is the link: familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/r/h/i/Brian-Rhinehart-Ohio/index.html There is an index of people there, listed under the birth, marriage and death listings. Some of the names in my family from Portage county are (and almost everyone of them traces their ancestry back to a Rhinehart/Rinehart): Barton Bearrie Beery Bera Bergin Berry Boosinger Bragg Brown Burnett Clark Cobb Cox Davis Eatinger Eckert Hawley Hayes Heeter Kindice Long Marsh Miller Moores Myers Oostdyk Pfile Phile Reed Rhinehart Rinehart Roepke Royer Sutton Timms Trumphour Trumpower Tupper Williard Willyard Wolf Woolf
Please give me the URL for the Rinehart ancestors. Donna Jean itsmeagain@att.net

I went back and tried it again. It still does not work. It is on two lines, and I clicked on both together. Gives me the same message. Copy and paste the URL into your address bar and then add ml on the end.
After reading through your information, it doesn't appear that we have any connection. At least none that I know of. I don't think my Rhineharts moved to PA at all-- I have no record of them being there. But I'll keep your email just in case I find something that says otherwise. Thanks for the information. Brian

I think that maybe you didn't copy the entire URL. Double check to make sure that you did that. The reason I think that is because the email might have put it on two different lines since it was so long. Did you copy both lines together?
OK, thanks for your help
Hi, The Portage County Recorder in Ravenna has deed indexes and copies of deeds. The following in the LDS (familysearch.org) catalog might also be helpful: Duplicate tax records : 1816-1838 Portage County (Ohio). Auditor Tax records of Portage, Summit and portions of Medina Cos., Ohio, 1808-1820 Clegg, Michael Barren Index to deeds; grantors, transcribed from Trumbull, Portage, Medina and Stark counties, 1795-1840 Summit County (Ohio). County Recorder Combination atlas map of Portage County, Ohio Everts, L. H Deed records, 1795-1881; index, 1795-1917 Portage County (Ohio). County Recorder If your people were rural landowners in Portage County as late as 1857, you might be able to find them on one of the 1857 maps included in the reprint of the 1874 atlas, published by the Portage County Historical Society.
