    1. Re: [OHPort'ge] LISTOWNER POST - Thanksgiving Dinner
    2. I would invite my great-great-grandfather, William Archer, who lived in Kent, Franklin Co., from at least 1830, maybe earlier until he died in 1860. His wives were Sarah and Lois. He is buried in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. I would ask him where he lived before coming to Portage Co. and who his parents were. I would ask him why his son George, my great-grandfather left there and went to live in Stark Co. before 1850. George married Jane Clark in Stark Co. All of William's other sons stayed in Kent or Franklin Co. and some are buried in Standing Rock Cem. I would ask him what they might have had for Thanksgiving Dinner in the 1800's and who else was there. Great question!! Rose Ann Clark Akron, Ohio

    3. I would invite Captain Caleb Carlton (my 4th great-grandfather) and his family. He lived in Portage County from 1814 to his death in 1823. I sure would like to find out how entering the militia as an 18 year old private he made Captain by the time he was 25. Ron Carlton Dallas, Texas

    3. What a great question. I would love to invite My gggrandparents John and Eunice Ferguson. They were married in Portage co. on Sept. 9th,1848. Grandma and her family the Shurtliff's were in Portage co. when she was born in 1827. Her parents and family are buried in Breakneck Cemetery in Kent. Grandpa John and his family came from New Brunswick and settled in Franklin. But I would love to talk to them about all kinds of things especially who Johns parents are. Why they decided to move to Cleveland, Ohio. How My GGrandfather met their daughter? So many unanswered questions? Mary Gilbert

    3. I would invite David Giddings. He was not an ancestor, however. He was the original owner of our house in Kent, and lived here, I think, from 1838-40. He owned land in Streetsboro, Franklin, and Freedom Townships from about 1836-42. He married Charlotte Barton in Portage County in 1835. A child, Darwin, was born in 1840. Charlotte and Darwin died that same year. Jeff PS We're having Thanksgiving dinner at my Mom's this year. David is welcome to join us there. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol C-H" <cch@netdoor.com> To: <OHPORTAG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2003 8:21 PM Subject: [OHPort'ge] LISTOWNER POST - Thanksgiving Dinner > Those of us who are in the USA will soon be celebrating Thanksgiving. 3. I would love to invite Abraham Dyson and his wife Polly Taylor to Thanksgiving dinner. Abraham's family came to Portage Co in 1804. They lived amongst the Wyondot Indians. I have not been able to find their death date, so I would asked them when they died and where are they buried. I would also like to know if their is a relationship between Polly and Elizabeth Taylor. Elizabeth married their son James Dyson in 1825. 3. What a great question. It's sort of easy for me, except I can't just invite one person. My great grandfather Daniel Bower and great grandmother Mary Swartz were married there in 1847. I'd have to invite them both. And I have no idea how long-if at all-that they lived in Portage County. I'd love to know. 1. [OHPort'ge] LISTOWNER POST - Thanksgiving Dinner with the HINDS & ROUSE Families
    2. Successwoods
    3. Happy Thanksgiving Portage County, Ohio Listers :-)!!! I'd invite over the ERATUS HINDS Family & the GEORGE ROUSE Family & ALL his siblings & thier mother Elsa (Adams) Rouse . Erastus Hinds arrived in 1828 , whose son George Hinds had contacted Andrew Carnegie and as a result money was received for building the present library home in Kent. Mother Elsa Adams Rouse arrived after 1840 but before 1850 & her daughter Emily Rouse married Erastus Hinds. I'd want to have them all over for the Holidays & find out when & where Elsa Rouse's husband, Rennselaer Rouse, died & why the children were split up & some sent to Michigan to work as coopers , instead of Ohio. That split up took me over 20+ years to figure out that there were 8 children of Elsa & Rennselaer Rouse's !!! Of course, I guess we can be Thankful that the Rouse kids help populate several states, LOL :-)!!! Happy Thanksgiving to All, Janet & Family

    2. James Archer was born about 1814 and his wife was Maria or Mary Randall, probably born about the same time. Josephus Archer was born about 1826 and his wife was Mary Brewster. Think these are the only Marys that could be born that early.

    2. To each of you: My William Archer lived in Portage Co. OH, Franklin Twp. City of Kent in 1830, 1840 and 1850 Censuses. He died there in 1860. He had a wife Sarah, in 1850. He married Lois Bunnell in 1857. He is buried in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. The headstone has William, Lois and two other husbands of Lois. Figured this out after a lot of research. William's children were James Archer, George Archer (my gr-grandfather who grew up in Portage Co. but lived in Stark Co. OH later.) Isaac Archer, Josephus Archer and daughter Amanda, wife of Alphonso Hollenbeck. Other names associated with the Archers are: Randall, Brewster,Warner, Rose, Johnson, Lumley, Belding & Parker. These are surnames that married Archers. If this rings any bells out there let me know. I'm anxious to know where William Archer came from in PA. There were still Archers in Portage Co. as late as the 1920's. Rose Ann Clark RClark2121@aol.com Akron, OH
