Hi, I am looking for others researching the following names. The COFFEENs lived in the Kent OH area starting about 1865. At one point they operated a construction company called Coffeen Builders in Kent. Some COFFEEN given names are; William b. 1850, Mary Ellen b. 1852 m. PRICE, Wallace b. 1854, Frederick b.1856, Maria Elizabeth b. 1859, Hannah Marie b. 1860, John Wesley b. 1863 m. BESAW and Nellie ELY, Usilla b. 1866 m. John TRIPLETT and John F. HALL, Alice Maud b. 1873 m. Sam TAPLIN. I think John W. COFFEEN b. 1832 was the first and only person with that surname in this area. So just about any Coffeen's are probably his descendants. I would really like to talk to descendants of the above. I will share the info. I have. Thanks, Gayle Hall Winslow thewins2@yahoo.com --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Joe - I looked up the address in a yellow pages listing at : http://www.switchboard.com/ Palmyra United Methodist Church 3968 State Route 225 Diamond, OH 44412-9757 Phone: (330) 654-2396 I'm sure this is correct, since my boyhood home was 2 doors up at 3996 SR 225. The church was still there, and active as of the last time I drove through town. My dad was a member until he passed away a few years ago. At that time, the Pastor was a Rev Kubitchek (?spelling?), who lived a few miles west of Palmyra Center. I don't have any other addresses or contacts for you, as no-one in my family is still nearby. I'll contact my sister, who lives north of Warren, OH to see if she has any contacts. In the meantime, I'm sure someone else on this list will reply. Greetings, I am searching for information to add to my uncle's WW II service record for the WW II Memorial to be dedicated in May. His daughter had all his records but she died very young and her husband won't have anything to do with her family. My uncle was in the Bloody Bucket Brigade 107th field artil., 28th Inf. stationed at Hunt Armory in Pa. He was in the Battle of the Buldge and received 2 purple hearts. That is all I know. I do not know his rank etc. and would like to have that to send to the Memorial before the dedication. Is there anyone living near Ravenna who could go to the Court House and ask for his Discharge Papers. He lived in Ravenna at the time he entered and at the time he was released from service. I would gladly pay all costs. I will furnish his name for anyone who can help. Thanks for any help. Carol

Carol, I hope this helps. I found this by searching for Old Home Week Potage county Ohio. I enjoyed this. Had never heard of Home Town Week. Not sure if it's something that still goes one though. http://www.reed.lib.oh.us/homeweek/hwg_1.htm Donna Jean itsmeagain@att.net
Greetings, Can anyone tell me if there is an "Old Home Week" celebration anywhere in Portage County? I just received a photo of my great grandparents, David & Martha (Evans) Powers sitting on a porch in front of an American Flag with a banner which is partly showing the words Old Home Week. Thanks for any assistance. Carol in sunny St. Pete Beach, FL:
The 1840 census has space to record the free colored people that were living in households. My gggg grandfather has a couple living with him in 1840. Was this a common thing in that year in Portage county? Brian
