    3. Surnames: WIRT WIRTZ WERT HONEYWELL BEAN COLTON NEWTIN NEWTON WIRTH Submitter: kristi jahns ([email protected]) Date: 17 Sep 1999 I am searching for information regarding various members of my family that have lived in Portage Co. Ohio. The earliest of the members I have found in Portage Co. were John Wirt (born 1813 in Pennsylvania) who married Elsie Honeywell on 29 May 1834. Elsie was born 1813 in PA. They moved to Portage Co. sometime before August 1840. They had at least 2 children that I know of. The first was named Westley William Wirt (b. Aug 15, 1840 Portage Co.) and the second was named John Baptist Wirt (born Sep 17, 1843 Portage Co.). Westley William married Ella Bean on 17 Mar 1850 in Portage, OH. Ella was born 17 Mar 1850 and died 8 Jun 1911. Westley William and Ella Bean had 5 children named Silliman Mansfield, Mary, Ida Francis, John Westley and Reasin Andrew Wirt. I descend from Silliman Mansfield. I believe that John Baptist Wirt married a woman named Frances Colton. I know nothing about their descendents or Frances' family. Ella Bean was the daughter of Reasin R. Bean (b. Oct 12, 1822, d. Aug 25, 1863) and Frances Newton (Sep 1, 1832, died April 11, 1858). I don't know if they were each born in Portage Co., but they obviously had moved there by the time Ella was born on 17 Mar. 1850. They were married June 5, 1849. Reasin and Frances may have also had a son named Orrin Reasin. I would love any information about any of the above people. I would be happy to exchange my information with anyone who is interested. Thank you, Kristi e-mail: [email protected]

    3. If your ancestors came to America to escape persecution in their native land, you may want to look at this online exhibition by the Library of Congress. It gives a brief history of the religious sects that came to America, and you may view images of original manuscripts or art pertaining to the groups. Pretty interesting stuff! http://lcweb.loc.gov/exhibits/religion/religion.html Kathy

    3. Thanks for all the help on May/Mary Donnell and her family! I really love this list. One thing that is so great about it is that when someone answers a query, they quote a source. That is so very helpful. Working on the ancestors from long distance can be challenging, but working with the Portage County list is truly a delight. Thanks, everybody! Kathy in Texas

    2. Laura A Hine
    3. Hi Kathy: I'm looking at the History of Portage County and on page 793 is a A.P. Donnel, retired farmer, P.O. Randolph, was born in Lisbon, Columbiana Co., Ohio, August 6, 1818, son of John and Maria Donnell, natives of Pennsylvania, but who removed to Ohio, first settling in Columbiana County, afterward in Portage County, where they remained until their death. The mother died April 26, 1846, the father December 17, 1863. A.P. Donnell was married Feb. 11, 1841, to Harriet C. Dye, daughter of Frederick and Lovina Dye, who were natives of New York, remaining there until the latter's death, after which Frederick Dye came to Ohio and spent the balance of his life here. Harriet C. was born Nov. 29, 1820, and died Aug. 26, 1874. On July 5, 1875, A.P. Donnell was married to Susan E. Rogers, who was born in Holmes County, Ohio, Oct. 25, 1830. A.P. is the father of 7 children, six of whom are now living: Juliet, Sara A., Francis M., Charles E., Edson and Carrietta. Clinton is deceased. On page 802, Henry K. Redfield, Randolph, was born on the farm he now owns, March 29, 1822. Henry married Mar. 25, 1852, to May Donnell, a daughter of John and Myra Donnel, and born in Atwater, this county. I assume that you saw the rest of this bio. So, that might give you something new to go on. You could check in Columbiana County to see if there is any information there about this family, and also you might want to try to find Probate records at the Portage County Courthouse. There were no other Donnell's in the book. Good luck Laura Hine [email protected] On Tue, 14 Sep 1999 19:52:10 EDT [email protected] writes: > In a message dated 9/13/99 9:25:33 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > [email protected] writes: > > > X-Message: #5 > > Date: Sun, 12 Sep 1999 20:49:37 -0500 > > From: "Kathy Funk" <[email protected]> > > To: [email protected] > > Message-ID: <[email protected]> > > Subject: [OHPORTAG-L] Donnell of Atwater > > Content-Type: text/plain; > > charset="iso-8859-1" > > > > Well, I'm really stuck on this one. 3. Hi all: Just wondering if anyone might be working on the Hine family in Portage County. I have a few that I am having trouble tying in. 1. The family of Abel Hine who married Freelove Finley and their children. Abel and Freelove were married in Canfield, Mahoning County, but they are buried at Hillside Cemetery in Shalersville, Portage, Ohio. 2. The parents of Ira Hine who was the cashier at the First National Bank in Mantua. I can't figure out who his parents are. 3. The family of Fred Hine born 12/20/1821 and died 3/8/1887. He married on 9/3/1846 to Sally Ann Ledyard (9/16/1823 - 12/24/1876) They are buried in Charlestown Cemetery, Portage County, Ohio. I have the names and dates of people buried around them at Charlestown, but can't come up with the relationships. If anyone might be researching the Hines, or maybe the Finley's and Ledyards, could you contact me. I'd love to figure this out and would be happy to share whatever information I have with you. Thanks. Laura Hine [email protected]

    1. Re: [OHPORTAG-L] QExpress for Portage Co., Ohio ( LEWIS WALKER )
    2. You might also want to make photocopies of them and send to Portage County Historical Society to see if they might be able to identify them. They do have a lot of photos there.
