Woodsie, Do you know how I can contact the "someone" who found your family's obit in the 1883 Ravenna Sentinel? I have a relative who died that same year and I would like to check out the Ravenna Sentinel to see if her obit is listed. Also, if the Sentinal was still around in 1892, I would like to find the obit for her husband who died in 1892. Thanks. This came across the Trumbull County List, and I just had to forward it to Portage County. It is wonderful! It is taken from a book called WESTERN RESERVE CENTENNIAL SOUVENIR by H. U. Johnson, 1896. A very kind woman is transcribing all the stories in the book and sending them to the Trumbull County list one by one. Midwest Pioneers: An Expedition, 1832 In 1832 an expedition commissioned by then Secretary of War Lewis Cass was sent to secure a permanent peace with Native Americans of the upper Midwest. Indian agent Henry Schoolcraft traveled as a member of the group as it journeyed up the Mississippi River. This database is Schoolcraft's account of the expedition and includes extensive descriptions of the Indian tribes of the area. It provides observations regarding the beliefs, customs, and history of the Chippewa, Sioux, Menominee, and Mandans. Also included are various official documents relating to the trip, along with the speeches of six Native American chiefs regarding relations with the United States. For researchers seeking to understand the Indians of the region, this can be an informative and interesting narrative. Bibliography: Library of Congress. Carol, Do you an address, e-mail or otherwise for the person that sent you that obit?? The wife of a relative I am searching for died in June of the year and the husband died there in 1892. I've been trying to get info from the Ravenna Democrat, the newspaper which was broken into by angry soldiers during the Civil War. The Sentinel may cover the dates I am more interested in. Thanks. Carol, Someone found my family's obit of 1883 in the Ravenna Sentinel which was a four page weekly paper back. Don't know how long it existed.

The Bossinger Book mentions a Sapp family bible which gives the birth date for Henry Sapp as 8/2/1768 MD. Unfortunately, it doesn't say who had the bible. The History of Portage Co Book gives the same info about Henry.
