    1. [OHPORTAG-L] Death, estate, burial lookups
    2. Doug Shepherd
    3. Hello All I recently discovered that my ggg grandfather, Joseph Shepherd was reported to have died in 1838 in Portage Co, OH. I do not know where he was buried or any additional information. Joseph has been my "brick wall" for some time and I hope that this new information will help to tear down that wall. Joseph, wife Sarah, and son Ezekiel had lived in nearby Trumbull since about 1825 and continued to live in the area until about 1840-1843. Any information is welcome. Thanks to all. 1. [OHPORTAG-L] Information I received
    2. Hi there, When I was at the Portage County Historical Society the other day the lady gave me a flier that really has me interested. ~Claudette Special Prepublication Offer Heritage Publications, Kent, Ohio, in the year 2000 will publish Randolph, Rootstown, & Atwater Revisited*, a 52-page, two color, profusely illustrated collection of history and nostalgia. The book is currently in compilation. The time-frame of the subject matter will range fromsettlement times to as late as the 1960s. A random selection of topics would include Bela Hubbard & Hubbard Squash, Johnnycake Hollow, the Randolph Fair, the Atwater Stoneware Co., school sports and select classes, fire departments, Maple Rest Gardens, historic churches, "John the Barber," the tragic 1956 train wreck at Atwater, coal mining, Girton's Service, the grotto at St. Joseph, community figures, Atwater-Strong Co., New Milford, Dr. Albert Silber, John Grate, Wise Chevrolet, Jenior Ford, historic houses and much much more. Some of the photos will be previously unpublished. The volume will have a selective name and subject index. As is common in the book-publishing trade, books may be prepaid at a rate lower than the price at publication and thereafter. For a limited time, Randol ph, Rootstown, & Atwater Revisited* may be purchased for $10.00, thus saving the $1.75 shipping and handling charge that will apply once the book is published. Those taking advantage of this special, prepublication offer will receive the book postpaid or personally delivered for $10.00. After publication, the price, including shipping, will be $11.75. Make checks payable to Heritage Publications, P.O. Box 11007, Brady Lake, Ohio 44211. This will be the fourth such book in a series of local history and nostalgia volumes. The co-author also is the compiler of Ohio Place-Names, a quality hardcover from Indiana University Press, and resided in the New Milford area for over 30 years. The book planned for your area will be similar to Memories of Stow -- Only Yesterday, published in 1998 and available in Stow - area stores or area libraries. It will prove of great interest to anyone with ties to Rootstown, Randolph, Atwater, New Milford, or St. Joseph's and will be a much appreciated gift. * the title is a "working title" and may change later. The cover design is still tentative and also may not be finalized until a later date.
