    1. [OHPORTAG-L] Obit.Josiah F. Dutter husb.of Addie VEON
    2. Greetings, Below is the obit for Josiah F. Dutter. I have his wife as being Addie E. FENTON , taken from a genealogy done in 1948. I am wondering if anyone would have his below mentioned wife Addie VEON in their file. A year or so ago, I sent for the marriage application of a J. F. Dutter to a Ella A. VION, the date is hard to make out but it looks like Nov. 25, 1880. Below it says he married Addie Veon in 1882. If anyone can help me out on this I would greatly appreciate it. Carol CHARLESTOWN Charlestown - The sudden death of Joshah F. Dutter at Weyland last Thursday afternoon came with crushing weight to his wife and family and neighbors. He had built a cistern for Chas. Fisher and completed it and with Mr. Fisher was finishing the outside of it when Mr. Dutter fell over and as Mr. Fisher raised him he breathed his last which was caused by neuralgia of the heart. He had been having some rheaumatic trouble which may have caused his death. Mr. Dutter was born in Freedom March, 14, 1856, and was married to Addie Veon in 1882. To them were born eight children, four boys and four girls. One little girle, Essie, died in early youth. Those remaining with their bereaved mother deeply feel the loss of a kind and indulgent father. The funeral was held last Sunday afternoon. Rev. W. C. Crofts officiated. The floral tributes were beautiful and given as a testimony to one who in life was upright and respected. Nearly all of his married life was spent in Charlestown where he had many friends. The original obit was brought to me, Carol (Dutter) Gilliland, of St. Pete Beach, FL., on Nov. 17, 1999, by Randy Lane of Lakeland, FL. who got it after his grandma, Mable Cook, passed away.

    2. Greetings, I had a visit from a cousin who I had not seen since childhood and he brought me some original obits and pictures. In this obit for my great grandmother, it mentions relatives from outside the Freedom area. I have never heard of many of them so I am hoping someone may be researching those names and will contact me. It also mentions the town they are from. Carol in Fl. Obit. for Sylvia (Cooley) Dutter Mrs. P. A. Dutter died on Wednesday, July 29, 1908, at her home in Freedom. She was born in North Sheffeld, Ashtabula County, August 29, 1849, where she resided until 21 years age, when she was married to P.A. Dutter on April 16, 1871. Eight years of her first married life were spent in Charlestown and then returned back to her native town where she remained three years, then returned to Freedom where the remaining years of her life have been spent , being a strong, healthy woman until her last sickness. On June 30 she was taken sick with a stroke of apoplexy but recovered so as to be about the house until July 24 when she had the second stroke, only living six days, being a great sufferer. Her life's work has ended and a vacant chair stands in the home and a loving wife and mother is missed by the ones left behind to mourn for her. Three sons and three daughters have been born to her. Two sons and two daughters are left with the husband to cherish her memory and loving deeds. Mrs. Ida M. Cook and Mrs. Addie E. Jennings, the daughters, reside in Ravenna. Bert and Lee Dutter in Freedom, all married but Lee. He is left at home to comfort the loving husband. She joined the Congregational church in Freedom nearly twenty-two years ago and has been an active member ever since. 3. I know of no such sites. However, most early county histories included listings of early physicians, either in a separate section or noted within township write-ups. Histories of county medical societies are a good place to start. -----Original Message----- From: Tim / Ellen [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, November 14, 1999 12:40 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [OHPORTAG-L] Physicians Hi, Does anyone have a web site for looking up physicians who practiced medicine around 1825 - 1850? Or schools of medicine that list physicians that would have graduated medical school about 1825? I know medicine was in it's infancy then but it seems like there should be some record of the few physicians of the time. Thanks. Ellen

    2. Tim / Ellen
    3. Terry, Thanks. I'm not sure how much that helps either, but it is the correct family and adds one more tid bit of information. I just found an 1854 obit for Dr. Henry DeWolf of Butler, PA, brother of Dr. Joseph DeWolf of Ravenna. Henry moved from Ravenna to Butler, PA in 1818. Not sure who the S. Mott in the school list is. Could be either Sandford or Sylvester, one or both of whom could be brother to the Jackson Mott am searching for. Jackson Mott would only have been 3 in 1838. It seems the more tid bits I find the more questions I have. At least I now know that Joseph DeWolf was in Ravenna as early as 1816. And I know he was born in CT. I seem to be finding the outside pieces of the Mott puzzle. One of these days the inner pieces will begin to fit as well. Thanks again.
