I have a friend, a retired school teacher, here in Paris who has a very large family history compiled on the Williams/Griffith/Richards families of Paris and Palmyra. I don't know if she uses the internet or not. She has given me a copy of her history. I didn't think to search it for Davis names but will do so. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maureen E Vorp" <mvorp@kiski.net> To: <OHPORTAG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 24, 2002 5:01 PM Subject: RE: [OHPORTAG-L] Re:Davis Family in Portage County (Palmyra) > Hi, > > I have Davis on the Griffiths side of my Rees/Griffiths family. Hi Bonita!! How funny it was to read email from the Portage County list and see my name! I'm Chris Lindegarde (and I'm a SHE by the way :)). You can send me the information in either Excel or Word and I'll get them up on the USGENWEB Tombstone Project. It's great to see so many Portage County transcriptions going up! I live in Portage County, too :) Get me the files whenever you can! You can also send photos - I have my own website for transcriptions and photos, too (cemeteries in Northeast Ohio). We'll get all this stuff on the web as quickly as possible so everyone can access them. Thanks! I have received several requests from people searching for Davis families in Paris and Palmyra. I offered to post all my cemetery information on the USGENWEB site and Chris Lindegarde, the Ohio Tombstone Project Coordinator has graciously accepted. I promise to work on it this week. I have to confirm with him that the upload would be okay as I have both the information in both Excel spreadsheets and MS Word documents. In the meantime, when I find Davis information that may help you, I will post it on the Portage County, rootsweb site. Please be patient as I search. I also am happy to photograph tombstones in Paris and Palmyra Townships for anyone from out of town using my digital camera and e-mailing the photographs. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe Orfant" <orfant@gis.net> To: <OHPORTAG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 23, 2002 10:48 PM Subject: Re: [OHPORTAG-L] Re:Davis Family in Portage County (Palmyra) > My ggrandfather, Evan Davis emmigrated from somewhere in "South Wales" about > 1875 with his wife Elizabeth (Williams) my grandfather John and another son > Morgan. My ggrandfather, Evan Davis emmigrated from somewhere in "South Wales" about 1875 with his wife Elizabeth (Williams) my grandfather John and another son Morgan. They may have come through Johnstown PA but they were definitely in Palmyra in 1880 (census data.) Both my grandfather and ggrandfather were coal miners so I've been hoping that someone else might have similar pattern that might point to an origin on the assumption that friends and family tended to emmigrate together. My ggrandmother is thought to have died in 1885. Other children in the family born in the US were Ann, Mary, Tom and Howard. Does any of this fit any of the information you might have? Thanks, Joe Bonita Lock wrote: > I am the local historian for Paris Township which is the sister township to > Palmyra. I am the local historian for Paris Township which is the sister township to Palmyra. I have information on numerous Davis settlers from the 1850's to 1900's for both Palmyra and Paris. My research involves old township trustee records, cemetery and school records, etc. from Paris and old cemetery records for Palmyra. Hi All, Not sure if anyone has an index for 1860..or 1870. I need a lookup on the name ROUSE. Looking for all listed. Names & page #'s would be great. Ancestry does not have an index done for 1860. I have the 1850 census if you need anyone from there. Thanks Terry Fillows4@aol.com
Also - McElroy, Foljambe I'm looking for genealogical information on the following people/families who lived in Franklin Township, Portage County, at the time of their deaths. They are all "residents" in a small cemetery that my husband and I are working on, and we would like to know them as much as possible. We know some information and many relationships between the "residents", but there is so much more to learn. We know that some are related to the founders of Yale University. Others to Joshua Woodard, one of the early Franklin Mills citizens and a conductor on the Underground Railroad. Any infomation or clues will help. There also may be and probably are others buried here, too. I am of the firm belief that Desire Dewey, mother of Orinda, should be buried here, as she died two days after Orinda. Thanks!
