I believe that the family came over from Germany about 1875 or so and the Stainfords you found in the 1880 census must be the same Steinfurth family. This is great, now I have their original last name to work with and a place of birth!! I am looking for info on the Steinfurths of Portage county. Henry Steinfurth, b. 1844 in Germany Regina or Geina, b. 1845 in Germany Their children: Anna, abt. 1878 Louise Minnie, b.1875 William Frank, abt.1878 Hattie, b.1884 Rudy, b.1888 Thanks, Joyce
Wish to say Thank You to many of you who sent me information on Frederick W. Wheeler and Rachael. I now know they are buried in Maple Grove Cemetery along with a mess of other Wheelers... Also have received some census info that opens new doors to check thru, listing names of the 8 children born to Frederick and Rachel.. One last question... Received info on a Wheeler Crypt located in Maple Grove. Would anyone have additional information on it. Or how these Wheelers are related to Frederick.? Would think they might be distant relatives or cousins. Rachel and Frederick are not buried in it, but a David K. Wheeler, d.1881 is.. Is it his family that erected the crypt or .... Many thanks to all of you... Sheilah

The cemetery will eventually be on my website of transcriptions and photos. Chris

Hello Ron.. I have not been able to name the uncle who came with Frederick. Not even sure if the Uncle is related to his father (Wheeler) or mother (Blackwood). Family sketch I have says the following.. Frederick William Wheeler, a resident of Ravenna, Ohio, but a native of Belfast, Ireland, having been born there October 1, 1787. During the religious rebellion in his native land he enlisted in the British navy and shipped on board a man-of-war with an uncle. After following the sea for many years he finally left the service and came to America, locating in Canada prior to the War of 1812. While there he was impressed into the British Naval Service, but succeeded in effecting his escape while stationed on the Detroit River. Being able to cross the line into the States he located in Ravenna, Ohio, where he met and married Miss Rachel R. Ward, a native of Westmoreland, PA.... Have learned Frederick and Rachael are buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ravenna Ohio. Not sure if any other members are there with him. Still digging.. Should I figure it out, will drop you aline... Hello, I am seeking information on the LAUGHLIN family who lived in Aurora around 1870. I do have an 1870 census that shows Lot as the head of the family, as well as his wife, Mary and two of their children. It appears that Mary's mother also lives with them (Sarah INGLESBY) as well as Mary's brother, Peter. The family is still there in 1880, with the exception of Mary's mother and brother. The children listed in 1880 are John, Thomas, Francis, James, Mary and Joseph P. (who is my ancestor). Lot's death certificate states that he was born in Ireland on 3 Dec. 1834- and that he died on 10 May 1921. Mary Ann, his wife, was born in Lockport, NY on 26 Jan 1842 and she died 19 May 1921. Deaths occurred in Cleveland Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance, Tami
Another place to check would be the local newspapers and sending to the library in Kent I think with some money for cost of copy they would send you what they can find. It is something that you have to wait for but might be well worth the wait. Also keeping in mind that everything you read in the newspapers is not always correct but it can be great reading and somewhat graphical. I do not live in the county of Portage, so i do not have access to their records. I was hoping someone that lived in the area would be helpful. Mike, Have you checked police &/or coroner records? This is pretty recent for genealogy, as you know. Bill
I am trying to locate either obituaries or newspaper articles on a Murder/Suicide that happened on March 7, 1922 in the city of Kent, Ohio for a Jeremiah Hoy and his wife Mary Hoy. It appears from the death certificates that he must of killed his wife then killed himself afterwords. Any information or any newspaper findings would be greatly appreciated. Mike
Would you have any information on Asa, Zebiah or Abigail Tuttle Briggs or any other Briggs? I would really appreciate it. Thank you. Marilee
