THE CIRCLEVILLE UNION HERALD Thursday, October 13, 1898 Page 9 Column 6 WELCOME M BOYS The order says that General GRANT's brigade, consisting of the Fourth Ohio and Third Illinois is relieved from duty and will sail for hom October 18, just one week from last Sunday. The time of the company's arrival in Circleville is uncertain but that they are coming is sufficient to warrant our people in making active preparations for their reception. Counting on all chances of delay the boys will get here not later than October 28, and all the usual methods of greeting the returning soldiers should be gone through with. Give M boys a hearty welcome. SOCIAL HAPPENINGS Mrs. E.A. PALM of East Watt street gave a dinner yesterday in honor of Mr. and Mrs. NIGH of Amanda, who were recently married. Covers were laid for twelve and the table was very handsome in its decorations of pa__m__s and fall roses. ***** Mr. and Mrs. George W. BAUDER will celebrate the twenty-f9fth anniversary of their marriage Saturday evening, October 22. ***** Miss Mary LUDWIG will entertain her friends at her home in Pickaway township, Friday evening. There will be dancing. ***** The social and spelling bee given by the senior Luther league at the First Lutheran church Tuesday evening was very pleasant affiar. In the spelling match Robert EGAN won the first prize, a book of Tennyson's poems and Arthur TRY was given a spelling book for being second best speller. The cake on which there were a number of guesses was divided between Mrs. M. A. SWEETMAN and Mrs. L.F. DRESHER, both having correctly guessed what was inside the tissue wrapper. An excellent lunch was served from which ten dollars was realized. ***** The ladies of the Presbyterian church will entertain the public to one of their famous suppers this evening from 5 until 8 o'clock at the Pickaway House. All the good things in and out of season will be served for twenty-five cents. ***** Mrs. Captain E.R. BLACK of Leistville entertained a party of ladies to a dinner Oct 6. Among them from this city were Mrs. J.M. THATCHER, Mrs. Susan RICE, Mrs. E.E. HASWELL, Mrs. J.C. SCHINDEL, Mrs. John HENRY and Misses Kate and Jennie WOLFLEY. ***** Mr. and Mrs. J.P. NOECKER entertained with a very handsomely appointed dinner Oct. 6, Mr. and Mrs. George NOECKER and daughter, Pearl, of Monticello, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Henry NOECKER of St. Paul and Mr. John NOECKER, who was married that evening to Miss NOTHSTINE. ***** Prof. and Mrs. CHATTERTON moved in to the old M.E. parsonage Tuesday. ***** Mrs. Otis LARRICK of Adelphi died suddenly Monday night from an attack of heart trouble. Her husband and daughter, the only surviving members of the family, barely reached her bed before she expired. The funeral was held this morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. STEELE of the M.E. church officiating.
