I was looking through our old local newspapers this morning and came across the obituary for Benjamin A. Timmons. I know there are several Timmons researchers from Pickaway and Ross Co., and knowing that there were several Timmons families that came to Indiana, I'd thought I'd send it along - maybe it will help someone. Adina Lafayette Daily Courier, October 6, 1888 Lafayette, Indiana (Tippecanoe County) BENJAMIN A. TIMMONS Died, Tuesday evening at his home in Bolivar Township (this is in Benton Co., IN), after a long and painful illness, principally of a rheumatic nature, BENJAMIN A. TIMMONS, aged 72 years. He was buried under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, at Gilboa church Thursday afternoon. The Rev. J.J. Thompson preached the funeral discourse. A very large number of relatives and a large number of the order attended. BENJAMIN TIMMONS was born in Pickaway County, Ohio, April 10, 1816. In 1829 he moved with his family to Tippecanoe County. Two years later they moved to Benton County and built the first log house, 16x32, which is still standing. This was the first permanent settlement made in the county, and for two or three years was the only one. Frequently MR. TIMMONS has passed near what is now Oxford before a house was built. In 1844 he was married to SARAH J. ANDERSON. Five children were born to them. In 1842 he was elected coroner, afterwards served two terms as sheriff and was also chosen county commissioner. For many years he took an active part in public affairs. he was a worthy man and an honored citizen. - Oxford Tribune.
