    1. Questions
    2. I have gotten death and birth certificates at the Courthouse-Probate Department in Circleville,Ohio Pickaway County. The birth certificates that I found myself dated back to 1882 but they do go back farther than that. The death certificates that I found myself were dated 1884 and they also go back farther You can have marriage records looked up at the Pickaway County Historical Society, Circleville, Ohio. The books that I saw there are from 1810-1898, but they may have books that go back farther. The address for the Pickaway County Historical and Genealogical Library is P.O. Box 85, Circleville, Ohio 43113. It is a wonderful place to do research. The director is Darlene Weaver. They will research one surname at the Courthouse for $15.oo. Ms Frosty

    1. Questions
    2. Niesen
    3. I was interested to see the replies to some of the questions that have come through the list, specifically: -- what early records are available for marriages, births, deaths, etc. and -- where would one write for a death certificate in Pickaway I know there were early probate records of marriages, but so far I only have ones that I have obtained through LDS or from CD's. I'd like to have copies of the original records where possible. I also know that birth & death records were generally not kept until 1867 in Ohio. But is there another earlier source that went county-by-county? And is there any substitute material that could be used other than wills and cemeteries? If anyone has any of this info, please respond to the list so everyone can have the answer....there might be someone else like me know wants to know. Thanks, Len

    1. 1840 Census
    2. Karen Conley
    3. Hi List: I'm wondering if anyone has the 1840 Census for Pickaway County. I really need a look up of Jesse Leazenby, Darby, Twp. Jesse's surname may have been spelled as Leazenby, Leasenby, Lesenbee, Leasenbie, Lazenby. I have a regular subscription to Ancestry. Com but not the Census subscription. Regular subscription gives the Census but is alphabetical by county and I have been tying to find this person by just the first name of Jesse as there are so many spelling possibilites for the surname. This is taking forever as there are more than 9,000 Jesses on the Ancestry. Com census for Ohio! Any help at all will be much appreciated. Thanks! Karen Conley klconley@webtv.net
