3. Sandy, think you for the new information. The Ashville Cemetery is especially interesting as my Wrights are buried there, but I do not know who else. I am looking for the burial place of Vinton Gilmore who died 23 June 1914. I have the death certificate, but no place of burial listed. I called Maders and they do not have records back that far, though they did handle his funeral. I believe they were living in Clarksburg area at the time of his death. His wife, Hattie Brown Gilmore, remarried and is buried in Forest Cemetery. He may be buried there, but not with her. If anyone can help locate this grave, I will be so appreciative. Thanks to all for the hard work on our Pickaway sites. Regards, Mary A. 1. dates?
2. There must be something wrong with the dates. He can't have been born in 1815 if he died at abt age 50 in 1895. Also, did the paper come out about 6 days after he died? Around a Thursday? He was 5 days short of his 50th birthday when he died, but the paper came out after his birthday. I see the mathematical problem, but just rechecked to make sure I hadn't typed it incorrectly and that is indeed the way the article reads? microfilm #24141 from Ohio Historic Soc. Lib. I typed from a photo copy. Sorry folks November 28, 1895, Circleville Union Herald Death of Dr. J. T. Kirkendall Dr. J. T. Kirkendall died Friday afternoon about 4 o'clock at his home in Darbyville of pneumonia aged 49 years, 11 months and 25 days. The doctor has been poorly for several years past. His last sickness however, was of only a few days duration. Dr. Kirkendall was born November 27, 1815 in Darbyville and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kirkendall now both deceased. He passed his early life in his native village, living with Dr. R. H. Tipton after the death of his parents until he was sixteen years old. He then went to Madison county and worked on the farm of Oliver Mitchell until he was twenty-one years of age. Ambitions to improve his education he next went to school at Lancaster where he pursued a seven months course of study and after that he began teaching school at East Lancaster, Fairfield County. He taught there one term and the ensuing twelve years was engaged in teaching in Pickaway County, having charged of a school in Darby township seven years. He read medicine five years under Dr. Tipton. Abandoning the work of teaching he turned his attention to the general mercantile business in partnership with Mr. Fissel under the firm name of Fissel and Kirkendall and for two years was thus engaged. Resuming his old calling he taught school one yar and read medicine with Dr. F. M. Black. He subsequently attended lectures at Starling Medical college, Columbus, and was graduated there from Feb 25, 1879. After leaving college he was in partnership with Dr. Black a year, since then he has been by himself. In 1880 Dr. Kirkendall was united in marriage to Miss Sallie Renick who with two sons, Benjamin R. and Edward T. survive. He also laves one sister, Mrs. John Fissel and one brother Capt. W. H. Kirkendall, both of this city. The funeral occurred Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the M. E. Church of which the doctor was for years a member. **sorry this is where my page ends folks. Sandy

1. surname: Bookwalter
2. Hi all Came across this obit while searching for others: Circleville Union Herald, December 5, 1895 Suicide at Chillicothe Newton Bookwalter of Kingston committed suicide at the home of Mrs. Lena Schaeffer near Chillicothe Sunday night by shooting himself with a thirty-eight caliber revolver. Bookwalter was employed as a farm laborer by Mrs. Shaeffer. The only reason that could be assigned for the rash act was despondency. A few weeks ago he drew his money $574 from the savings bank at Chillicothe and sent it to his mother at Kingston. 2. Hi folks, While looking for obits, I came across this article and just couldn't pass it up; take a moment and read it, it's not only informative (with surnames you might be looking for), but, it's rather entertaining. Sandy Searching Family Stories with Sandy Morning Gazette March 12 1855, Ross County Newspaper ARREST AND ESCAPE We stated on Saturday morning that Sheriff Anderson had received information that the thief who stole Dr. Waddle's horse had been arrested in Portsmouth. He according sent his deputy, Mr. Hon immediately to that place to bring the offender to this city. On arriving at Portsmouth Mr. Hon found the thief in jail, from where he took him and started in a buggy for this city, where they arrived on Saturday evening about 8 o'clock.-- Just as they drove up in front of the jail the thief, not being handcuffed jumped from the buggy and escaped. He was pursed for some distance by the officer and a number of citizens, but owing to the darkness they were unable to keep track of him, and no trace of him has yet been discovered. He is doubtless an old offender, and we sincerely hope may yet be recaptured and brought to justice. -------------------------------------- THE FOLLOWING DAY, MARCH 13, 1855 SAME NEWSPAPER ANOTHER ARREST AND ESCAPE The horse thief who was arrested at Portsmouth and escaped from our officers on Saturday, was re-arrested in Columbus on Sunday evening, and again escaped from those in charge of him, as they were conducting him to jail. Sheriff Anderson had telegraphed to the Columbus police to be on the alert, and the thief arriving on the coach from this city, having got on at Bloomfield, was arrested. But the wily rascal again made his escape, aided by the darkness. ---------------------------- The following day, March 14, 1855, same newspaper FIFTY DOLLARS REWARD! FOR THE ARREST OF CHARLES FULTEN ALIAS WILLIAM JOHNSON Who escaped on the night of the 10th inst. Said Johnson is about 28 or 30 years of age, has blue eyes, probulient (hard to read this word?) nose, heavy whiskers around his chin, is of light complexion, his whiskers somewhat sandy. He is about 5 feet 5 1/2 or 6 inches in height and well made, and is a remarkably genteel looking person and dresses quite handsomely. He had on a greenish -----hard to read coat? cut shad bellied, dark overcoat and dark pants. He sports two gold chains and two very large rings, one on each little finger. I am very anxious to have it in my power to take by the hand the above immoral gentlemen, and will cheerfully give the above mentioned reward. JOHN R.
