    3. Marlene, If Barbara Wortman was pronounced dec'd within Perry County in 1989, there should be a record on file at the P. C. Health Dept. Their number is- (740-342-5179). If Barbara was in a hospital at the time of death, her record should be on file in that county, as well as the State. (P. C. does not have a hospital). Muskingum Chapter, OGS has indexes of their Health Dept.'s death records in their collection and we have most in the P. C. collection. If the information is not located here or Muskingum County, you would need to contact each other surrounding county's Health Dept. The Bureau of Vital Statistics in Columbus, OH. should also have a duplicate record of all deaths in each county, but be prepared for a wait in getting a reply. They are very busy. We have combined our collection of newspapers (1918- present / some missing issues) with those of the county's, and they can be viewed at the P. C. Archives, Monday - Thurs. 8:30 to 4:30. Lori Lucas is the clerk and will do brief look ups for a minimal fee. 740-342-5549. The P. C. Chapter, OGS also has an obit. file, but the dates vary greatly. If you wish to contact a volunteer, please call 740-342-4194 (the New Lexington Library) and ask for genealogy. If a staff person is on duty, they will be happy to try to answer your questions. Hope this helps. Sue Saylor, P. C. OGS. Cor.
