This site has been entirely too quiet since our Manager went to work full time and is a busy lady. Could I stir things up a bit by asking about my elusive ancestor? It has been a while, perhaps we have a newbie on the site who knows something about my guy and his family. I am trying always to find the parents of Joseph PETTY b. Mar. 18, 1765 and his wife Elizabeth whose maiden name is still up for grabs between the MIDDAG and VANATTA families. Both claim her but neither has documentation that we can find. 1. Their oldest child was John, b. 1785 in NJ. He live in Perry Co. and married Delia Danison who apparently died sometime between 1820 and 1830. John is later found in Clark Co. where he married Martha Fort. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF HE HAD CHILDREN W/ Delia or Martha. IF HE DID THERE SURELY MUST BE DESCENDANTS. 2. Moses, b. 1787 ended up in Lawrence Co., Ill. He married a WAGNER woman. 3. Mary Ann married Aaron VANATTA, s/o of John and Mary VANATTA. Following Aaron's early demise she married an ANGLE. After his death, she married Rev. John LEHMAN. She had children w/ Aaron VANATTA and ANGLE. 4. Susanna married Stephen VANATTA. 5. Betsy (Elizabeth) married a PEPPLE and went to Ill. 6. Aaron was a blacksmith who lived in New Lexington and died young. He had married Agnes McCreary and had at least 4 children. I KNOW NOTHING AT ALL ABOUT THESE CHILDREN EXCEPT THEIR NAMES MENTIONED IN THE DEATH INFO. Are their any Pettys remaining in the area or surrounding counties? 7. Jacob married Amelia BARNES and remained on the home farm outside Somerset. He and his father, Joseph, donated land for the school. This is my line. 8. Sarah married a PARGIN and went to ILL. 9. Margaret, b. 1791, married Henry STOLTZ and lived in ILL. for a period of time I think. She had a son Jeff/Josiah PETTY prior to her marriage. Jeff went to ILL, married a WAGNER woman, and remained in ILL. 10. Joseph PETTY, Jr. married Elizabeth CLOVER. They moved to Ill. also. If you are descended from any of these lines, be they Petty or allied lines, you might have information that would help me get the entire family lined up. I DO NOT WANT TO WRITE A BOOK! I just want to get my ancestry together in one place to leave for my descendants. Please, if you have anything on these names or COLEMAN, MAJORS, MURDOCK, SHORT, I would like to hear from you.
