Hi all I would suspect people would know their own age and of course people could lie about their age for various reasons. I think one of the reasons ages are sometimes off is that the census taker asked someone else ie. the kids/neighbors. How many eleven year olds know how old their parents are? Father's out in the far field and maybe mother too and who's left at the house when the census taker arrives? The kid would most likely know how old his siblings were.
