There are newspapers on microfilm as early as 1824 for Perry Co. This paper was based in Somerset, our first county seat. Of course these early newspapers are scattered issues and if my memory serves me correctly, they seemed to cover more of the national, rather than the local news. I'm sorry I can't locate my list of newspapers for Perry Co. Perhaps if you search the Ohio Hist. Society's web site, you'll get some idea of what they have. This is where I saw the 1824 film. I believe their microfilm can still be borrowed on the Inter- Library program for a small fee. One might also search the holdings for the S. E. Ohio Archives at the Alden Library in Athens, Ohio. Some of their holdings have been transferred to OHS, but they may have retained their films or have copies. To date I haven't found any Perry Co. papers online, in their entirety.
