Hi Julie! My great-grandmother, Lavinia "Vinnie" "Vina" HARLOW ended up in Perry Co., OH and married my great-grandfather, Charles T. COATES in 1893 Perry Co. Both lived in Shawnee. By that time, Vinnie's mother was living in Orange Co., IN and her father was in the Dayton Soldier's Home. She was not living with her parents in Perry Co., OH when she married at age 16. Vinnie was taken to the Athens Co., Infirmary in 1878 & ended up in the children's home. I have been to your web site. Great job. I have been trying to figure out how Vinnie came to Perry Co., OH. She was not of legal age to marry, but lied on her application to make herself of legal age. >From that, I'm thinking that she may have left the Infirmary to live with a family who either lived in Perry or moved to Perry from Athen's Co. My question: Were you able to find all of the records on the Infirmary and Children's Home? I wonder if there is a record of Vinnie's release and to whom? Her siblings were farmed out into the homes of others as servants. Can you imagine? Ida E. Harlow, sister, ended up in Perry Co. too as and her name was changed to Susan Jane. Ida/Susan married Frederick UPHOFF, a German immigrant to Perry Co., OH & they moved to Michigan. Best Wishes, Donna ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Donna, at admittance in 1878 your HARLOW family were residents of Rome Twp., Athens County, Ohio. (see below transcript) "Jane Harlow & six children were admitted into the Infirmary April 8, 1878 by order of the Trustees of Rome Township. Jane Harlow, 32 years; William Harlow 12 years; Ida Harlow 8 years; Gusta Harlow 6 years; Ruthett Harlow 4 years; Lulia Harlow 2 years; Lovinia Harlow 1 year. Previous habits good as far as known. Present condition bad. A. Martin, Supt. William Harlo discharged Mar. (or May) 1st, 1878. Ida Harlo was taken away June 29, 1878 by D?. Gamble" I do have all of the records that are available to the public, and HARLOW dos not show up in any further records. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Thanks for the compliments on the site. :) Julie www.juliesgenealogy.com Athens County Poorhouse/Infirmary Transcriptions & Families -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Thursday, April 26, 2007 8:46 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: [OHPERRY] Perry Co/Athens Co., Poorhouse transcriptions Hi Julie!
