Wow ~ I think that James S Church could be my great great grampa. My great grampa Frank E Church Black 1863 Maxville OH died 1927 and lived with his maternal grandparents, Henry and Susanna Carey Black of Perry Co OH. The family moved onto Hardin Co OH about 1864. The daughters of Henry and Susanna C Black were: (1) Rachel Black b 1837 Perry Co OH who went onto marry 1867 James F Firestone (was she first married to this James S Church?), (2) Elizabeth Black b 1839 Perry Co OH who went onto marrry 1872 John C Sleighter (am told he died in 1878), and (3) Matilda Black b 1841 Perry Co OH who went onto to marry 1866 James Davis. For 1850 at Perry Co OH Monday Creek; Henry Black 41 b PA, Susanna (Carey) 39 b DE, and ch: William 15, Elizabeth 12, Matilda 9, John H 7, Robert 6, Thomas J 4, and Avery 2. Rachel does not appear in this census. For 1860, the Black family is yet at Perry Co OH (as well as 1840) and William their son is married to Margaret Statzer and have child Flora 2. All 3 gals (Rachel, Elizabeth, and Matilda are in the household). In 1870 the Black family is at Hardin Co OH: Henry 61 (constable), Susanna 45, Rachel 33, Elizabeth 31, Thomas J 24, Isaac 20, Charles 15, AND, F E CHURCH age 6 (grandson). Matilda is not in the household. In 1880 the Black family yet at Hardin Co OH have another grandson, Eddie Sliester, living with them. This appears to be Charles Edward Sleichter 1872 who was railroad brakeman and kin to my FRANK E CHURCH/BLACK (7/19/1863 OH - 1927 CA), also railroad conductor. Frank and Ed went onto California. I have posted a bio for my great grampa Frank Ellsworth Black that I got from the Calif His Soc in which it states that he was raised by his maternal grampa, Henry Black who served in the Civil War along with his sons, losing one, Avery to the War. THANK YOU ever so much for this data. It is heartfelt. Does anyone know who Flora and Margaret Church married? (They, as daughters of Augustus and Margaret Church). Please see my site TEETER KIN for the hist doc for Frank Black (1905). God bless. Our "Coal and Salt Lick Cemetery" publication does not list this person nor is he listed in my notes from the Shawnee clerk's office of the "Cemetery Plot Owners, 1881-1885." If you have a plot # for the Shawnee Cemetery, maybe it would be an option to call or write the Shawnee clerk and see if they can help?? Shawnee Mayor's office - 740-394-2462 Second Street, Shawnee, OH. 43782 *There is a George A. Tinker ( 1836 - 1901 Veteran) in the "Monroe Township Cemetery Inscriptions" for Dew Cemetery. This may be in Saltlick Township, but have been unable to find it. Would this have been for burials of the Hazelton Family only and those related by marriage? If the site still exists, is it on farmland and if so, is there access to it by interested descendants and genealogists? John Hazelton, one of the earliest settlers in this county may have been one of the first burials. Also searching for Sarah Hazelton Mains who died in 1862 and is said to be buried there also. Would be most grateful for any information. Thank you. Ohio To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original Charles, Perry County actually has two Hazelton Cemeteries. An old one, which it appears you are speaking of in Salt Lick Twp., and a newer one in Pike Twp. I believe the Hazelton Cem. in Salt Lick Twp. is still accessible to genealogists with permission from the land owners, but the old road may not be passable in a vehicle, now. We have an early reading of the stones in this and other cemeteries of that area in our Coal and Salt Lick Township Cemetery publication. This book is currently on sale through our organization. If you wish further information on it, please contact me at [email protected] John Hazleton is listed in this cemetery, but the stone was apparently unreadable at the time of the reading. Sarah Mains is also listed with a death date of March 19, 1862 aged 30 yr 8 mo 25 d I have an interest in the Hazeltons, also. Rebecca Hazelton d/o Samuel and Nancy (McKinney / Kinney?) Hazelton married Robert Colborn in Perry Co. Ohio on Nov. 10, 1831. Do you have anything on this particular branch?
