Phil and Curtis, The Maplewood Cemetery is located about 1 1/2 miles south southwest of the County Courthouse in New Lexington and can be reached via State Routes 13 & 37 (Main Street) to the Courthouse, then south on Brown Street about 1/2 mile to the railroad tracks and a five-way intersection, cross the tracks and make a 1/2 left (45 degree) turn onto south Swingert St. The main entrance to the Cemetery is located on the right side of Swingert St. a little less than 1 mile up the hill from the railroad. The Cemetery Office is located at the right of the Entrance. You may want to stop there for information on the locations of specific burials This Cemetery is the largest in Perry County, containing an estimated 8,000 burials (my estimate) covering about 50 "Wards". So, if you are looking to find specific burials, you will need to know the Ward Number and the location of the Ward. This information may be obtained in the Cemetery Office. It may also be found in the PCC-OGS Publication "Cemeteries of Pike Township in Perry County, Ohio" in the PCC-OGS Library in New Lex. If you are coming from Columbus, I would recommend that from Columbus, you go east on I-70 To State Route (SR) 13 which is about 25 miles out. Turn right (south) onto SR 13 and follow that past Thornport and Thornville, through Somerset and into New Lexington, a distance of about 21 miles. Once in New Lexington, just follow the SR 13 markers to the top of the steep hill and on to the Courthouse on your right. An alternate route from Columbus would be south on US 33 to Lancaster, left (east) on US 22 in downtown Lancaster to the eastern edge of town then right onto SR 37 (at the Ralston Plant) then east on SR 37 to New Lexington, about 13 miles. Sr 37 and SR 13 join on the western edge of New Lex and follow the same route through town. See the first paragraph above for the in-town routing. I hope this will be of some help. If you have any other questions about other cemeteries, County Offices, towns in the area, the Library, etc. I would be happy to try to answer them for you. Just drop an e-mail to the address below.
