    3. Hi Margaret, Could you please send me your e-mail address. I have Levi Brown, Crist, etc in with my Cavinee family. Thanks. Glenda -------Original Message------- From: Marguerite Crist Calvin Date: Friday, August 03, 2001 14:40:16 To: OHPERRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [OHPERRY] John Brown and Levi Brown Just returned from a research trip to Northumberland, Lycoming and Union cos PA. Discovered a booklet on my John Brown family in which the authors A. W. Brown and wm. W. Brown say they had a letter from Levi Brown of Maholn, Perry co, Ohio. He also got many of the surnames wrong such as FANLEY for FAULEY and didn't have either wife. But I am glad for what we got. It said he had 8 children, one died young, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The book is dated 1896. It also gives his father Peter's history and this was important for my family. The John Brown, sister of Elizabeth Brown Crist and Peter Brown, it has this to say: John married an Irish woman to which the family was very much opposed, for which cause he went away from home. He removed to Ohio, subsequently to Terre Haute, Indiana, where some now live of the name of Brown, but we do not know whether of that family or not. But we do know that during the war of 1812 he took his own team and served as t eamster. This John was in the war of 1812, from which he returned and lived in Indiana, and it seems that he ran a boat on the Mississippi river during the time of the cholera in 1831, which he took on a trip to New Orleans. He and his son-in-law were buried in one grave. One little incident has beenr elated by the rest of the family. One day as he was driving along, a soldier asked him to take a package on his wagon, which he did and for which he was court-marshaled and his team was confiscated, but was subsequently restored to him. This incident shows his benevolent disposition, which is charactieristic of the whole family. So MY John Brown is solved even though I don't know the name of the "Irish" woman! Thanks again for all your help. If the Levi Brown descendants want more on his family, they can contact me privately. Margaret Crist Calvin.
