    3. Sorry I've been packing or I would have addressed this yesterday. Yes, there is a nasty virus making its rounds. It is NOT coming THROUGH a RootsWeb mailing list. Attachments cannot pass through the lists at RootsWeb. See the article on RootsWeb about the subject: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/announce.html#virus I think what happens is too many people 'jump the gun' and pass messages on the lists about "getting a virus on the list" when what happens is the virus is passed by *someone* who is subscribed to the same list. I've seen several posts on various lists stating something to the effect of "I got a virus on a RootsWeb list." I've gotten this virus sent to me numerous times in the past week or so. Between Norton and my firewall, it gets caught before I am aware of what it was. ALL have been what *looks like* responses to messages I have sent to mailing lists, quoting a portion of my message with a line at the bottom to see some attachment (sorry can't remember exact wording). Thus these are NOT coming from a maillist! I don't mind someone posting about a virus (as long as you make sure its a real one, not a hoax) as we all are on the computer. But please do not get out of hand with the discussions about viruses as that is not the purpose of this list. There is a list for virus discussion which you can find by going to http://lists.rootsweb.com/. One thing to always remember, DO NOT open attachments if you are not expecting one! Running a website I get plenty of attachments and some of you have probably received an email from me asking if you did send an attachment and what is it. So always know what you are opening BEFORE you open it! It will save you a lot of grief down the road! If you have any questions, email me privately at angela@kneller.com. Best Regards, Angela Kneller List Admin.
