An additional comment regarding birth/death records ... Although birth and death records exist in Perry County, it wasn't until the early twentieth century that the State of Ohio mandated a uniform format for all counties. Some of the more interesting pieces of information (e.g., parents and place of birth on death records) are missing from the early Perry County records. The Probate Court has birth and death records from 1867 to 1908. From 1909 and up they are at the Health Department. The state of Ohio didn't require birth or death records to be kept prior to 1867, though some counties did, Perry County unfortnuately wasn't one of them. (Sure would make documenting some of my ancestors easier!!) But marriage records from 1818 and up are located at the Probate Court. Have a good day!
