Morning All, Don't know if you've had a chance to look at the 1940 Census yet. A good free version is here http://1940census.archives.gov/ but as you'll find out, the individual images are just huge (they average about 3.5M each), so they take a long time to download. Too much trouble.... I've downloaded all 800 +/- images for Perry Co. and worked a little Photoshop magic on them and have been able to reduce the sizes by over 90% while maintaining their usefullness. Each of my images are about 300K. The are on my site here http://www.perrycountyohio.us/1940Census/ I was also able to get them more geographically identified as well so it'll be easier for you to find the right town or twp. This link is not on my main page yet so you guys have the jump on other web users. I haven't spent a lot of time really proofing these new pages so if you find any mistakes, please let me know. I'll probably tweek this a little more this evening but thought you could use something to do on a rainy day. MOST IMPORTANT, the creation of the searchable index for the Birth 1 Index (1867-1908) is done. The Surnames will now be "found" in my new search engine at http://www.genealogy3.com/Search/ While several people helped with this job, I have to especially thank Karen Markwell who did a huge amount of work on this (and you should thank her too !) I would really like to get to work on the other Probate indexes and this new 1940 Census and could really use your help. Its not hard to do. You just need to be able to read and type (even into an email) More later but give it some thought. It would take almost no time at all to complete all of this if 20 folks were working on it.
