I'm trying again but have just a bit more information. Allen VanBuren GRIFFIN b. 1856 in Perry County married Effie F. WOODS in 1879. They were married in Hocking Co. They had five children - infant born and died in 1880-81, Herbert, Jennie, Carl or Carel died at age of 3 in 1891 and Minnie. Allen's Father's name was Henry GRIFFIN b. in Ohio probably around 1810 + or - in Pa. Effie's parents were Ephraim and Margaret KERNS WOODS b. in Ohio. I think that one of Allen's brothers was James GRIFFIN b. 1853 married to Polly TUCKER in 1881 Athens. Thank you. Sherole
JEHU BROOKE JONES DICK born August 01, 1854, died October 23, 1891 in Somerset, OH. Death is listed as a homicide. He was apparently shot by the town marshal, who later stood trial for his death. JEHU was my grandmother's uncle. His father was STEPHEN CAYWOOD DICK. Stephen was a school teacher in Perry Co. Any additional information would be appreciated. Thank you. I know -- there are millions of Smiths! But....what the heck.....here we go! ANDREW SMITH And yes, just to make this fun, there were TWO Andrew Smiths living in the area! MY Andrew was a Rev. War vet b. 12-25-1749 and raised on the Mohawk River near Schenectady, NY. After the war, he settled first in Centre Co., PA and then came on over into Ohio. His son helped him apply for a Pension in June 1836 (Fairfield Co.) but was denied! ;-{ He came early (1806? or before) into Fairfield Co. and settled on land that would later become Perry Co. Wifes name-Elizabeth (maybe Sweetman?). Andrew had several children including a Michael and JOHN SMITH. (no I'm not joking!) John married Jemima Kennard and bought land in Perry. I've got him in census/land/cemetery records. He had a big family too and many of them moved on west. It's the old soldier, ANDREW SMITH I'd like to know more about! If anyone has seen him lately......tell him I'm looking for him! Phyllis in Atlanta transferred to the deep south but BORN in Ohio and still a Buckeye at heart!
Dear Carole: Thank you for the census records, they are greatly appreciated. Thanks Barbara, It didn't seem right to me, but always have to check it out. Sure appreciate your stepping and keeping me on the straight and narrow :>) sometimes I need it :>) Thanks again, Glenda
While everyone is on the subject of ALLEN surname, does anyone have any information for a Morgan ALLEN? He was born about 1812 in VA. He married Rachel Carey in Perry Co., 5 Jul 1842. They were in the 1850 Census in Falls, Hocking, OH, which is right below Perry Co., with children Susanna and Eliza. Barbara Porter, Arizona

Glenda, yes, we have talked before, The Sarah Roberts that we mentioned was married to Aaron Dew, sometime before 1885. I don't show her parents or any other marriages for her. Also, I had a message from Susie Nicolia, on the Skinner family. She was looking for some additional info on them, but unfortunately I lost her (as well as several other folks address) and only have her note. Glenda, have you talked with Susie? There are several possible first names, but all would have been born in Ross County. I have a John C. Wilson, born about 1794 in Virginia, and came to Ross County about 1800 with his father James and several siblings. Family story says that several other members of the family (brothers of James) came with them. John C. married Rebecca Scheckley January 1817 in Ross County, and they had 10 or more children, depending on which story you get. I have 5 boys and 5 girls listed. Some of the boys migrated to the Fayette, Clinton, Perry, Van Wert County areas. I have very little information on children born to his children. That's why I wasn't more specific about first names in my post to the list. Thank you, Harold McDonald Cantonment, Florida
