    1. [OHPERRY] Humor - 1920s Style....
    2. Angela Kneller
    3. I thought these were rather humorous as well as interesting and thought I'd post a couple to the list. These are from "Jokes For All Occasions" by Edward J. Clode, cc 1921,1922. Reading through the introduction, these are meant for a person to use in normal conversation to add a bit of humor to it. Enjoy! Angela ****************************************************** The son of a house had been reading of an escaped lunatic. "How do they catch lunatics?" he asked. The father, who had just paid a number of bills, waxed sarcastic: "With enormous straw hats, with little bits of ones, with silks and laces and feathers and jewelry, and so on and so on." "I recall now," the mother spoke up, "I used to wear things of that sort until I married you." ****************************************************** After years of endeavor in poverty, the inventor made a success, and came running home with pockets bulging with real money. He joyously strewed thousand-dollar bills in his wife's lap, crying: "Now, at last, my dear, you will be able to buy you some decent clothes." "I'll do nothing of the kind," was the sharp retort. "I'll get the same kind the other women are wearing." ****************************************************** The farmer, after seven years of effort on the stony farm, announced to all and sundry: "Anyhow, I'm holdin' my own. I hadn't nothin' when I come here, an' I haven't nothin' now." ****************************************************** "I wish I could know how many men will be made wretched when I get married," said the languishing coquette to her most intimate confidante. "I'll tell you," came the catty answer, "if you'll tell me how many men you're going to marry." ****************************************************** The very youthful son of a henpecked father was in a gloomy mood, rebellious against the conditions of his life. He announced a desperate purpose: "I'm going to get married. I'm bossed by pa an ma, an' teacher, an' I ain't going to stan' for it. I'm going to get married right smack off. A married man ain't bossed by nobody 'cept his wife." ******************************************************

    2. Geez, Tim, my feelings are hurt because I feel left out in not getting a big thank you just for letting her alone during this time instead of watching the list like her substitute got. How about you? Guess we neither one are ever appreciated for all we do! That ought to get a rise out of the old girl! Bet she never thought she was hooking up w/ such an ornery group when she signed on to be the Mgr. of this County Site, did she? Tim, you have been might quiet, lately! That usually meant that one of my kids was into something? Should someone be investigating your activities?? In all seriousness, if I can possibly be so, it is good to have her back in civilization, the Midwest! No offense to any of you misplaced/displaced Perryites who have strayed from the reservation, but we all know that back here in the Midwest, or corn country as we are well known, is where it all happens. Glad the trip is all over, you are all safe and sound, and you are ready to get back to work, Angie, my Dear. Your every loving Pest of the Day, Marge

    3. Dear all concerned, My e-mail address will change. It was windsor@sirius.com, don't know what the new address will be. Here's what happened. Warning. If you have an Earthlink account cancel it. This happened to me. I had an account with First World. Without telling anyone First World switched all dial-up accounts to Earthlink. Earthlink, then changed the e-mail addresses of all concerned, without the account holders permission and without the knowledge of the account holder so that no matter what you now have a different e-mail address that has no connection to your former e-mail address. And your former e-mail address will no longer work. Here's the catch, to get your e-mail that Earthlink now has, you must sign up with Earthlink as your Internet service provider. Doesn't matter if you have a business with lots of correspondence based on your old e-mail address, that' too bad, you now have to change all that and start all over again. First World trashed their customers and now Earthlink robs the customers whom First World dumped. Anybody know how to counteract this kind of abuse or of any lawsuits against this kind of practice, that of slamming people to other companies without that person's permission regardless of the effects on one's business or correspondence? Help. It's horrible! And you can't reply to this e-mail as I won't get it !!!!!!!!!!!! Until later. Jim Windsor

    2. Angela M. Kneller
    3. Thought I'd let everyone know that I am back in the Midwest! After eighteen hours of driving I don't think I have ever been so happy to see all the farm land! Like they say, there is no place like home! I've got some catching up to do yet with all the emails and site updates, so hold on a bit longer! I don't have my computer hooked up yet (will have in the next few days) so I'm on my sister's for the time being and don't have access to all my previous emails as well as updating the site. I'll get to it all though...eventually! Hope everyone is gearing up for summer and enjoys! Wonderful time by the way to be out scouting the cemeteries (which I plan on doing plenty of)! So I'm back and want to give Brenda Van Dyke a HUGE thank-you for watching over the list while I was cyber-space denied! She is a wonderful lady and a huge asset to this list! Thank you again Brenda! Okay, I'll end it here and hope everyone has a great day! Best Regards, Angela Kneller - angela@kneller.com OHPERRY-L List Admin

    3. Nope, I sure don't... I don't have a lot of the Storts family down the line, even though my great grandparents were cousins. John Jacob Storts was his grandfather, and John Jacob was her great grandfather. I do know Harold Storts that still lives in Perry Co. Do you live in Perry Co. Did Ivan live there, can you find out who his parents were if he was from Perry Co. I would really appreciate it. 1. [OHPERRY] Popular Overland Migration Routes
    2. Lois Guffy
    3. BOSTON POST ROAD: Served as a mail-service trail between Boston and New York in the 17th century. BRADDOCK ROAD: Military road that became the first overland route through the Allegheny Mountains. CALIFORNIA TRAIL: Nearly 40,000 people caught gold fever in 1848 and traveled overland to California to find the precious metal. The trail coincided with the Oregon Trail until it crossed the Rockies. FALL LINE ROAD: A popular road from Pennsylvania and Maryland to the Carolinas before 1750, it broke off from the King's Highway at Fredericksburg, Va., and followed the fall line through Virginia, the Carolinas and into Georgia. FORBES ROAD: First a military road to get General John Forbes' troops from Harrisburg to Fort Duquesne (Later Fort Pitt and then Pittsburgh) during the French and Indian War; it provided a westward route for settlers from eastern Pennsylvania and New England. GREAT VALLEY ROAD: Migrating families to western Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee made this the most traveled road in colonial America. KING'S HIGHWAY: Formed by old post routes, the continuous highway helped colonists travel from Main to Georgia. MOHAWK TRAIL: Major route for hundreds of thousands of pioneers making their way west; precursor of the Erie Canal, New York Central Railroad and the New York State Thruway. MORMON TRAIL: Between 1847 and 1869, about 85,000 Mormon pioneers traveled along this 1,400-mile route from Nauvoo, Ill., to what became Salt Lake City. NATCHEZ TRACE: The only way to get to the Old Southwest before 1806, running from Lexington, Ky., to Natchez, Miss. NATIONAL ROAD: Also known as the Cumberland Road or national Pike, this route for westward-bound settlers never quite met its goals. It ad reached only from Wheeling, WV. to Vandalia, Ill., when the railroad eliminated the need for it. OREGON TRAIL: Along what was perhaps the most important migration trail, more than 350,000 pioneers - mostly from Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri and Illinois - journeyed the 2,000 miles from Independence, Mo., to the Columbia River region of Oregon from 1841 to 1869. UPPER ROAD: An important migration route to the Carolinas from Fredericksburg. WILDERNESS ROAD: Thousands of pioneers followed this route to settle in Kentucky and the lower Ohio Valley. ZANE'S TRACE: A way for migrating settlers to cross the Ohio River.

    1. Re: [OHPERRY] THAT VIRUS IS STILL WITH US
    2. Brenda J. Van Dyke
    3. Hi List -- I'm your "Fill-in" Moderator while Angela is moving. Unfortunately, to answer Leah's question, I don't have a copy of the list members. Yes, the virus is still upon us. I myself had it. We just can't emphasize enough about being very careful in opening questionable attachments that arrive in e-mail messages. With the "Bad Trans" virus, once you try opening the attachment (which, with this virus can carry many different names), the virus attempts to reply to all UNREAD messages in your mailbox and passes on the infected attachment. I'm not familiar with all virus scanning software, but some may not alert you until you unless you try opening the attachment. OK -- enough virus information for today. Let's get back to some good old genealogy discussions! If you have any other concerns about viruses, please e-mail me privately and not to the list. I'd be glad to assist those that have further questions or concerns. Thanks!!
