    1. [OHPERRY] Corning Cemetery
    2. Does anyone know who holds the interment records for the cemetery on Millertown Hill? Looking for my Great Grandfather Patrick Burns who died in 1900. He was a miner and lived in Rendville. My Mother Bernice McVay Finneran told me he was buried on a hill, but she never told me which hill. Thanks for any info you can provide. Michele Finneran Williams

Hi all; I've got some ancestors from Dixie, Ohio. I'm trying to figure out what township it is in. I've found township maps with no cities on them, county maps with cities but no townships on them, but none with both. Dixie is close enough to a boundary that I can't guesstimate the answer. Does anyone here know? 1. [OHPERRY] Re: OHPERRY-PETTY, Joseph and Elizabeth
    2. Thank you, I have read the article you cited in the Scioto paper. That line of PETTYs I suspect as being related somehow, somewhere, but cannot find anything to document it! I need a connection. I have pondered over this group looking for some sibling who might have been my Joseph's father, but all to no avail. The similarity of the family names makes me think they have to be shirttail if nothing more. Marjory PETTY Austen

    1. [OHPERRY] Sarah Ann Wilson Carpenter
    2. >Re: OHPERRY-D Digest V01 #115 >Do you have any information about the parents of Sarah Ann Wilson Carpenter? Sarah Ann Wilson's mother was Mary Jane WILSON. Mary Jane Wilson came to America (from England?) @ 1850, with hew parents: George and Margaret WILSON. She delivered twins Sarah Ann and George on October 11th, 1873, in Cambridge, Ohio (guernsey County). Mary named her daughter after her sister (Sarah Ann Wilson) and her son after her father (George). Mary was apparently not married or she was divorced..we don't know...but the twins went by Wilson mostly...and sometimes Sarah went by CARPENTER..but we don't know why. Mary Jane m. John McLEAN and her daughter Sarah Ann later married John's younger brother ADAM McLEAN. http://oorg.bizland.com/McLeanDescendants.htm Hope that helps you. As a side note: The FATHER, George Wilson, applied and signed for BOTH his daughter's marriage certificates the same day (sisters: Mary Jane and Sarah Ann) Julie North JEWEL8118@aol.com

I don't know if this will add any more info to the Petty line, but here goes: Pioneer Ohio Newspapers 1802-1818 by Green pg 53 The Scioto Gazette (Chillicothe) New Series, No. 49, Vol 1, Thurs 11 July 1816 Whole No 824. 1. [OHPERRY] Re: OHPERRY-The PETTY clan!
    2. Hello Listers, I will send a new request your way and see if it is more fruitful than my others have been! Joseph and Elizabeth PETTY, who came to Perry CO., in 1808, had an older son John, b. 1785. He married in Perry CO., first but I have never found any offspring of his. Surely there have to be some sticking around somewhere. If you are of a PETTY descent and do not know from whence you came, perhaps you are in this man's line. I believe his first wife to have been Delia DANISON. She was living when he bought some land there in 1820. However, she must have died perhaps in childbirth because he later went to Clark CO. where he married Martha FORTE. Again, I find no children but that is too early for them to have been named in the census. However, I will check to see if perhaps children are showing as being present. The unfortunate part is that Martha is showing as the head of the family by 1850, perhaps as early as 1840, my memory fails me here. If you are a PETTY, DANISON, FORTE, or any other allied line to this family and you know anything about the only PETTY offspring who went that direction instead of to Illinois in Lawrence CO., PLEASE get in touch w/ me. Thank you. Marjory PETTY Austen, d/o Alva, s/o Jacob C., s/o Josiah, s/o Jacob, s/o Joseph and Elizabeth

    1. [OHPERRY] McLean, McLain, North & Davis
    2. Hello Listers! Just thought I'd post my interests again. My McLEAN family immigrated from England into Perry County in the mid to late 1800's. (Originally MACLEAN and McCLEAN). Adam McLEAN was my great grandfather, b. 1860 and married Sarah Ann WILSON (CARPENTER). Adam's parents were George MACLEAN and Elizabeth BARRAS (BARRASS), both born in England, county of Northumberland. There are many details and over 600 family tree names on my web site at http://oorg.bizland.com if you would like to look. Most everyone resided in the Southeast Ohio area. There are also photos of family members as well as 72 photos of Veterans from previous wars (posted originally in the Athens Messenger). There are complete descendant trees for each branch of the tree, and the site itself is "Searchable" to make it quicker to find the names you're looking for. Let me know if you find any connections or need more info! Thanks! Julie NORTH

    1. [OHPERRY] RE: Maplewood Cem, New Lexington, OH
    2. Phil and Curtis, The Maplewood Cemetery is located about 1 1/2 miles south southwest of the County Courthouse in New Lexington and can be reached via State Routes 13 & 37 (Main Street) to the Courthouse, then south on Brown Street about 1/2 mile to the railroad tracks and a five-way intersection, cross the tracks and make a 1/2 left (45 degree) turn onto south Swingert St. The main entrance to the Cemetery is located on the right side of Swingert St. a little less than 1 mile up the hill from the railroad. The Cemetery Office is located at the right of the Entrance. You may want to stop there for information on the locations of specific burials This Cemetery is the largest in Perry County, containing an estimated 8,000 burials (my estimate) covering about 50 "Wards". So, if you are looking to find specific burials, you will need to know the Ward Number and the location of the Ward. This information may be obtained in the Cemetery Office. It may also be found in the PCC-OGS Publication "Cemeteries of Pike Township in Perry County, Ohio" in the PCC-OGS Library in New Lex. If you are coming from Columbus, I would recommend that from Columbus, you go east on I-70 To State Route (SR) 13 which is about 25 miles out. Turn right (south) onto SR 13 and follow that past Thornport and Thornville, through Somerset and into New Lexington, a distance of about 21 miles. Once in New Lexington, just follow the SR 13 markers to the top of the steep hill and on to the Courthouse on your right. An alternate route from Columbus would be south on US 33 to Lancaster, left (east) on US 22 in downtown Lancaster to the eastern edge of town then right onto SR 37 (at the Ralston Plant) then east on SR 37 to New Lexington, about 13 miles. Sr 37 and SR 13 join on the western edge of New Lex and follow the same route through town. See the first paragraph above for the in-town routing. I hope this will be of some help. If you have any other questions about other cemeteries, County Offices, towns in the area, the Library, etc. I would be happy to try to answer them for you. Just drop an e-mail to the address below. 1. [OHPERRY] SHORT/TROUT/OGG/RANDOLPH/WILSON/RIDENHOUR
    2. I have placed queries about Christopher RETALLICK SHORT and his parentage in England prior to this time. In review: born to John and Grace RETALLICK SHORT of Menheniot, Cornwall, England in 1815. Sister Isabella and brother William, only siblings of which I know. He married over there but wife is unknown. When he arrived in the United States, he had 2 children: William b. in 1840 and Mary Ann thought to have been born enroute to the states. In 1844, he married my g-g-grandmother, Keziah OGG TROUT and they produced Sarah Matilda SHORT who married Archibald MAJOR MURDOCK of Perry Co.  Just yesterday I gained a couple of new tidbits which I will add here. William, b. 1840 in Lannesect (?), England according to the Bible, and son of Christopher, married Abigail E. Randolph in 1862 according to Bk. 4 of Perry Co., OH marriages.   Another item in the 1850 Census revealed that William was not living w/ his father at that time.   Perhaps he was large enough to be helping on a farm and was living w/ a neighbor or relative but I did not find him.   Christopher was living in Jackson TP in Perry Co. at that time, house #12. William's half brother,   George TROUT, is not in the home in 1850.   Ruebin TROUT, the youngest half-brother is present along w/ my ancestor Sarah Matilda SHORT, but the older TROUT son, George, has gone from the home and is staying at the Abraham HANNIFEN establishment which was listed as an Inn.   Abraham's wife was Catherine and there are several other apparently non-related people living there.   George's type of work is listed as a blacksmith. I also found that a George TROUT, in 1854, married Elizabeth A. WILSON; and Reubin J. TROUT married Charlotte RIDENHOUR in 1860.   Their service records revealed the following:  Reuben and George A. TROUT were both members of Co., G., 53rd Battalion of the Ohio National Guard in 1865.   William SHORT was drafted on May 27, 1864. I do not know for sure but I do not think that any of them were killed in the war. Thought perhaps this additional information might help someone identify a line connected to mine.
