    2. I am still lost in the BROWN family. IS your John Brown the son of ALEXANDER BROWN and brother of Isaac, Adam, Samuel, William , Matthew & others? I have limited info on a Brown family in PA that might be the one you refer to in the book. L. Deweese

    3. Just returned from a research trip to Northumberland, Lycoming and Union cos PA. Discovered a booklet on my John Brown family in which the authors A. W. Brown and wm. W. Brown say they had a letter from Levi Brown of Maholn, Perry co, Ohio. He also got many of the surnames wrong such as FANLEY for FAULEY and didn't have either wife. But I am glad for what we got. It said he had 8 children, one died young, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The book is dated 1896. It also gives his father Peter's history and this was important for my family. The John Brown, sister of Elizabeth Brown Crist and Peter Brown, it has this to say: John married an Irish woman to which the family was very much opposed, for which cause he went away from home. He removed to Ohio, subsequently to Terre Haute, Indiana, where some now live of the name of Brown, but we do not know whether of that family or not. But we do know that during the war of 1812 he took his own team and served as t eamster. This John was in the war of 1812, from which he returned and lived in Indiana, and it seems that he ran a boat on the Mississippi river during the time of the cholera in 1831, which he took on a trip to New Orleans. He and his son-in-law were buried in one grave. One little incident has beenr elated by the rest of the family. One day as he was driving along, a soldier asked him to take a package on his wagon, which he did and for which he was court-marshaled and his team was confiscated, but was subsequently restored to him. This incident shows his benevolent disposition, which is charactieristic of the whole family. So MY John Brown is solved even though I don't know the name of the "Irish" woman! Thanks again for all your help. If the Levi Brown descendants want more on his family, they can contact me privately. Margaret Crist Calvin.

    3. Could some-one advise me please! I have my g-grandfather's (George Tinkler) "naturalization record" it was filed in Perry Co Oct 15, 1886. I have been trying to locate his "declaration of intent" which appears to have been filed in Perry Co Aug 21, 1884. Pery Co said they don't have it--it was filed in Licking Co--Licking Co says no! But according to one of the filings it was Perry Co & signed by Judge Frank Kelly. Any ideas what or where to go from here? Thank You, Christy Peacock christy_cands@webtv.net

    3. I'm new to this list and hoping to find another researcher of this group. I'm seeking information on LeRoy Read/Reed who was born ca 1840 in Perry Co., OH. He married Louise Lister. Louis was born in OH about 1855, but I can't find where in Ohio. LeRoy was in the Civil War. I believe the maiden name of Louise Lister's mother may have been Patton. There were some Pattons and Reads in Perry Co. in the timeframe of the childhood of LeRoy according to census records I have seen. Can anyone help? Debbie in Oregon

    3. Best policy is, DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENT UNLESS YOU ASKED FOR IT; Don't take a message that is poorly written as coming from your friend or Cousin. The Verbiage is bad because the perpetrator's native tongue is not English...No one whose native tongue is English would form the phrases like the Virus messages have...Reportedly, they are Red China...Your Friend/Cousin's computer may be forwarding without his/her knowledge. So, ask them. If you don't get an answer, DELETE it because it likely is a message sent by the Virus and your friend can't reply, because the Virus blocked your address to prevent you from warning the friend...a matter of self-perpetuation for the Virus...DELETE IT UnOPENED...Do not let your curiosity get control of your good judgment... PLEASE Folks, if you have not run a Virus SCAN in the last two days, PLEASE down-load and update your Virus SW, then Shut down, and run the Scan...someone's machine is sending out Virus by the scores...and it is taking all our time just watching to avoid it... I just looked at the Ohio Historical Society online newspaper catalog at http://www.ohiohistory.org/webpac-bin/wgbroker?new+-access+top (might show up as a two-line URL; if you go there, be certain to include the whole thing). They don't have any newspapers for that time period for Corning (and none at all for Rendville). But, they do have the New Lexington Herald and the New Lexington Tribune, which may have covered some events from there. Keep in mind that not all people had obituaries back then, and a lot of obituaries were rather scant in personal data. (Not to say you shouldn't look!) Good luck! 1. Re: [OHPERRY] Corning Cemetery
    2. Thank you, Daine. Yes, I am aware of the recording with the courthouse. Actually I found that info at the State of Ohio Library. I just can't find his burial place. You are right about several cemeteries in the area, that are "on a hill." I have been to Rendville and Corning and looked at all those you mentioned. I was just hoping there were records of his burial in case he didn't have a stone. I was told at the time that the County was in the process of cleaning up some cemeteries that were overgrown and only accessible by 4 wheel drive. I haven't checked to see their progress. Would you happen to know what newspaper would have listed obituaries in 1900 in that area? Maybe that is a possible solution. You have been extremely helpful and I appreciate that you took the time to look into my query. Michele
