Have a great deal of info on the HOY family, but have hit somewhat of a brick wall with Suzanna (HOY) & David BOWMAN. She was born 1836 in Perry Co., d/o John Stace & Margaret (GORDON) HOY. David was born ca 1835 in OH, according to census records. In the 1880 census, I have found them in Humboldt, Coles Co., IL, but have no death dates, burial places or even if they had any children. Also need David's parents. Thanks!! Brenda Van Dyke bjvd@greenapple.com

Nah, the lines have just been quiet because the magpie has been ill and off line. Usually, whenever, Tim or I THINK that Angela needs a little stirring up, one of us takes care of the matter. I guess w / me out of it for the pat 6 wks. almost, Tim dropped the ball and didn't get anything going. I am wondering, and our illustrious list manager can make the decision on this because sometimes people get carried away. However, it seems like it has been quite a while, unless it was recently, since we had a simple roll call. I don't mean 400 words of description for each Perry Co line you are researching. Just, first and last names, wives, and time frame would keep it simple. How about it, Angela, should we see if anyone out there knows anything about my people? For example, PETTY, Joseph, wife Elizabeth ?, son Jacob, b. 1801 in NJ. Line through Josiah, s/o of Jacob and Millie BARNES PETTY, Reading Tp. ELDER, Minnesota, wife of Wm H. Petty, d/o of Ashbury ELDER I am told, don't have documentation yet; need picture ID of Minnesota MURDOCK, Arthur, came from N. Ireland ca. 1820 to Chester Co., PA, to OH after 1825 sometime; 2nd wife Hannah HANTHORN, line through s/o Arthur and first wife who died in IRELAND, George and Sarah Angelina MAJOR, both born. ca. 1810, both died leaving possibly two sons, Archibald MAJOR MURDOCK and perhaps James Arthur MURDOCK; need burial and death info for parents and fate of James Arthur If we limit each query to 3-4 names and put the names in caps at the top it is easy to see if you need to read this one or that one. What do you think? There might be a Petty researcher lurking around the corner somewhere who has not heard from me! I'm glad to be coming back after almost taking the big trip w/ adverse reaction to anesthetic. I am weak, but the mouth still goes and the typing is coming back. So look out list, there will be no more quiet. Angela, did my article about the Petty Researchers meeting in July get posted on here? Love to all, MaRGE,

Ah yes, I'm still here! Silently working away trying to get caught up on two and a half months worth of back-log from moving! Thankfully I don't *EVER* plan on doing that again! And to think, I didn't even have to move all of our kids and worldly possessions in a wagon and moving only thirty miles a day! Now that you pointed it out, Tim hasn't heckled me in quite a while! Maybe because I myself have been quiet! And yes, a roll call about now would probably be a good idea. There are (off the top of my head) about 300 subscribers to this list so go ahead and put your surnames out here for everyone to see! If you would please, follow Marge's format below, such as include dates, places, etc. if you know them. Its hard to know if you are researching the same as I when all you put is "Looking for SMITH!" (By the way, I'm not researching Smith's, just an example.) And putting SURNAMES in caps is a very good attention grabber, especially for those who skim an email looking for just the surnames (yes, I will admit to doing just that)! I will throw mine out later, need to get my dates in order so I can follow my own guide lines :) No Marge, your article hasn't appeared on here though I will eventually get it on the website. It's on my list! Having a dilly of a time finishing unpacking my genealogy things. Others helped packed some of it and CD's got put in cases other than the ones they are supposed to be in so opening up a case is always a surprise anymore! I *think* they meant it as a practical joke but I can't find half of what I'm looking for anymore! ** Hal ** this is what has happened to the CD you sent me, got the case right here with one of my music CD's in it so I'm still unpacking to find the music CD case to get your disk! (And my mother wondered why I wanted to pack everything myself!!) So, on with the roll call and I've got digging to do and rugrats to clean up! You might find it interesting to know that there is a 1854 Reappraisement Book at the Perry County Archives that lists a Kennedy, Jane in R16/T15/Section 31 in Jackson Twp. 81 acres with a value of $769. The entire Jackson Twp list from this book will appeared in the Spring and Summer issues of the Perry County OGS, Heirlines Newsletter. ROBERT BROWN b ca 1780 MD, probably greater Baltimore area. Reportedly went "west" to PA then OH in about 1815. Was he the ROBERT BROWN b 1779 (MD), living in Perry County OH, 1850 Census, Monroe Twp, with wife SARAH? Robert's son LLOYD BROWN lived a time in Muskingum County OH, married to a Perry County OH girl, SARAH (SALLY) PARGIN. Then LLOYD moved to Madison Co Indiana. Known ch were ELIAS, ANDERSON, OBADIAH, ELIJAH, REBECCA, SARAH, and CATHERINE BROWN. Father ROBERT had a son HENRY, and probably other sons ELIAS and WILLIAM who, like LLOYD, moved to Madison Co IN.
Hello All, Does anyone have information on Leroy Hudson Read born 13 Jul 1841 in Bearfield Twp, Perry Co.? His parents were John M. and Sarah (?) Read. Their children were Hester, Mary J., Leah C., Caroline T., Margaret M., Eliza E., Leroy Hudson, and Joseph B Read. I'm hoping he may be my Leroy Read. My Leroy was in the Civil War (Co. G, 1st. Reg. Cav, Ohio Volunteers, enlisted 6 Aug 1861 at Camp Dennison, OH). In 1865 he was living in Marathon, Ohio. He married Louise Lister on 18 Feb 1874 in Labette Co., KS. He died there on 7 Feb 1881 of his war wounds. He and Louise had three children: Hester L. b. 22 Feb 1875, Mark C. b. 10 Sep 1877 and Elizabeth P. b. 5 Nov 1879, all in Labette Co. My Leroy Read indicates on census records that he was from Ohio and his age on census records indicate a birth about 1841. He also had a daughter, Hester, so it makes the connection with Leroy Hudson Read more plausible. Are these two Leroy Reads the same man? Debbie in Oregon

Hi, I am new to this list. My primary interest in Perry County is the Tatman and House families. My gggrandfather is Ezra House who married Julia Ann Tatman in Perry Co, OH in 1856. I am searching for the parents of both. I have reached a dead end in this search and hope to find a new lead or something helpful. Ezra's mother is listed as Ann House on the 1850 census but apparently his father had already died as he is not listed in the household. Ezra's brother is William House. Both lived in Fairfield County in the 1860 census and later moved to Washington Co, Iowa as did some of the Tatman family. I have not been able to learn the parentage of Julia Ann Tatman at all! Any help with these families is well appreciated. Sincerely, Brenda Hay Visit my web site for databases of AL, GA, IA, IN, KY, MO, NC, TN and TX: CENSUS ONLINE & OTHER DIGGINS http://www.imagin.net/~tracers/census1.htm
Seeking descendants of George GORDON and Hannah HAMMISFAIR. It is said that they had 9 children. Their oldest son, Charles, married Clarissa VANDENBURGH in 1841 and the daughter of Charles and Clarissa, Clarissa C. GORDON, is later possibly listed as Caroline in a census record. Aside from learning siblings of Charles, I am trying to determine if Caroline was a favored name in the GORDON family and possibly Clarissa's middle name. Sandy
Dear List members, For several months now, we have been posting historical data about many of the Primitive Baptist churches across the northern states, to a website, which is designed in a manner to try to help students of church history and also family history researchers. We have included surnames of members as far as they are available to us, although that is only a fraction of the names we would have if all the records were available to us. A great deal of time is required to prepare lists of members, enter them in our database, correct and improve them, etc. After 15 years of such work, on a volunteer basis, we now have over 30,000 entries, and have the records at hand to greatly increase that number. If you would like to review our website, or the page for the several counties we have done work on, in Ohio state, you may go to either of the following URL addresses shown below. Please write in our Guestbooks, and let us know if you think we can help, or if you can help us, on any of the information presented. We would appreciate any help that people can provide, such as historical sketches in County histories, location of church records, photographs of meeting houses (churches), association minutes, etc. Here is our main homepage: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html Here is the page for Family History Assistance in Ohio (it is still in progress - not complete) http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/FamHist-NY.html (make sure the whole line -including the ".html" at the end is intact - the URL is lengthy and tends to break down into two lines. Hi: I think we have talked before. I do enjoy your website. My Angle connection is with John Paul anghle and his father Paul Angle. I show John Paul as being born in Jackson Twp. Perry Co. in 1822. I would be happy to see what you have and will share all of my material. Thanks Kennie
Hi Gary: Thanks for your reply. I have Aaron Angle marrying Phoebe VanAtta. I show three sons: George, Stephen and Jacob. Do you want to exchange further info? Kennie
I only have info on Mary Ann Petty VANATTA ANGLE who married and had several children by him prior to his death and then married Rev. John Leman. There were no children to the third marriage. There were 2 or 3 Vanatta children to the first husband. If you are interested in what I have you are most welcome to it. The ANGLE husband also had children by his first wife who died. I have their names also. Marjory PETTY Austen MAPPAusten@aol.lcom
