Westbrook YOST Born - 1839 Thornville Township Married - ????????????, Susan E. ANSPACH Married - 8 OCT 1863, Elizabeth BOGANWRIGHT Married - 24 FEB 1876, Catherine KENNEDY Died - 18 APR 1889, Perry County Westbrook had 8 children with these 3 women, but I cannot prove a marriage with Susan E. Anspach. She just appears as the mother of one of Westbrook's known children. My great-grandmother Grace YOST, was born from the last union with Catherine KENNEDY. The "family legend" says that when Westbrook died at 50 years of age, he left his widow Catherine with raising all of his children from previous marriages, etc. She could not take care of all of them so she "adopted out" her natural daughter and my great-grandmother, Grace Yost to Westbrook's cousins', Frank and Etta Beagle who were childless. They raised Grace as their own and a few other orphan girls also.

I'd like to know that also. I have heard of a Cemetery book for the cemeteries of Perry County. I have not purchased it yet.
I am in the same boat Lea Ann. I am looking for my Great Grandfather Patrick Burns, who also came from Scotland. Born approx. 1857/1858 and was also in Monroe Township in late 1880s. Corning/Rendville area. He worked in the mines and died at 42 yrs of age of pnuemonia. Married to Elizabeth (Lizzie) McGinnis who was born in Ireland. Lizzie is buried in Maplewood Cemetery in New Lexington, Ohio. My Grandmother Elizabeth (also AKA Lizzie) Burns McVay and my great uncle Pat Burns, her children, are buried along side of her. I cannot locate Patrick Sr.'s burial place. He is not with his wife and children. He died in 1900 and Lizzie lived until 1921. They lived on Smokey Row Rd. between Corning and Rendville, Ohio which has been consumed by RT.13. Does anyone know if the Cemetery Book, I've been hearing about lists names? Could someone tell me the newspaper that would have had Patrick's obit in 1900? Thanks, Michele

First try your local and then the main library in your county. They are usually in local history departments. If you live in Ohio you are more likely to find the Ohio census. Your library might know the closest place with the records. The records will almost always be on microfilm, which you can often copy. I've never reviewed a census before - How do I go about getting a copy of a census? I'm interested in finding Kramer's in Perry County (New Straitsville) probably late 1800s to early 1900s. Hello All, Is there an 1840 Perry Co. census or 1840 state census? Looking to see if there is an Elizabeth Patton living with Robert and Anne Patton. Would have been listed as a child. Perhaps also a sister Susan? Thanks, Debbie
It has been transcribed & the book is available from the Perry County Gen. Society. Carole

I'm not sure that there is an on-line record, I haven't been able to locate one. However, I do know that if you visit the cemetery they are able to print out an alphabetical list of where individuals are buried. ----- Original Message ----- From: starsstripes@webtv.net Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2001 10:51 AM To: OHPERRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [OHPERRY] PERRY Co. Hi everyone, I am researching Thomas MARSHALL and his wife, Jessie CAMPBELL MARSHALL. He was born in Scotland in 1849, but came to the United States around 1878 or 79, and was living in Perry County, Monroe Twp., by the early 1880's. I am descended from his son, James MARSHALL, b. 1876. They were coal miners. I've just started to trace this line back and could use a lead or two! Looking for info on Samuel ORTMAN (15 Mar 1791 - 29 Apr 1880 Thorn Twp.) married to Hannah _____ (25 Dec. 1799 Maryland - 27 Feb. 1888 Thorn Twp.). Both buried in the Methodist Cemetery in Thornville. Three children that I know of: Rebecca ORTMAN -- B. 20 July 1829 Perry Co.; Marr. Eli FOSTER on 30 Mar. 1848, Thorn Twp.; D. 14 Oct. 1882 Whitley Co., Ind. (These are my 4th gr-grandparents.) Aaron ORTMAN -- B. c. 1839 Emily ORTMAN -- B. c. 1841 Does anyone have the children (or more to add anyway) of Samuel and Hannah and possibly Hannah's maiden name? Thank you and have a good evening! Just a refresher course for those who may not know what the purpose of this list is. As with most mailing lists, this list is here and people subscribed to it in order to help one another with their research. That includes a great many things, i.e. history, locations, people, events, about anything you can think of that would pertain to the life of a person. After all, that is what we are researching, the lives of our ancestors. Whether you post queries, surnames, a question, or some snippit of data in case someone else can use the info, you are using the list as it is intended to be used. Roll calls are another great way for researchers to connect with each other and collaborate. Even if no one can connect to your lines *at the moment* your message does get archived and someone may find your message later on and contact you. This is a fact as I have done this myself! Nancy T. can attest to this with the Linville line that I had contacted her about and it had been six months after she had posted the message! So it does happen folks and I'm sure I'm not the only one who does things like that! So the bottom line is this list is to help out researchers. Share information, ask questions, let people know who you are researching! New people join the list often so you never know who will have that missing link you are looking high and low for! For more information on mailing lists, please see RootsWeb's Mailing List FAQ at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help/mail5.html or you may email me privately. So, in spirit of this list, who *are* you looking for? (Psst....SURNAMES in caps and in the subject line will get across to more people!)
