    1. [OHPERRY] 1870 census look-up
    2. HI again. I was told I should see if someone out there could do a census look-up for me, so I'm asking. Make that begging! I'm looking for Charles Lisamore Carrigan's parents. Charles was born in 1869 in Perry County. His mothers name was Ellen. he may have had two sisters names Cora A. and Minnie T. I'm told Charles' father was either James or Patrick. They may have also spelled their name Caragan at that time. I would also appreciate it if someone could do a look-up for Charles' birth records, if there are any. He was born Dec. 22, 1869. Please e-mail me at cdetgen@aol.com Thank you very much Caren (Carrigan) Detgen

    2. HI I don't seem to get any response to this, but I'm going to try again. I'm looking for the parents of Charles Lisamore Carrigan. he was born in Perry County in Dec. of 1869. I do have some information that he may have moved to West Virginia with his mother, Ellen and two sisters when he was only nine years old and then came back to Perry County when he was old enough to leave home. He married Eliza Jane Search on Oct. 15, 1891. They lived in Corning (Mingo Junction) when they were married. They are both buried in Dew Cemetary. I don't know if cemetary records would have his parents listed or not. I would appreciate it very much if someone could find out for me. I really need help on this. I do still have reletives in Perry and Athens counties, but they know less than I do. My uncle Frank Carrigan was once the sherriff of Perry County, many years ago. Thank you for any help anyone can give me on this. Caren (Carrigan) Detgen cdetgen@aol.com

    3. Barb, I show that Rachel and Richard married in August 23, 1831, and that she died in December 1876 in Atchinson County, Missouri. I don't show the divorce, but.... I believe that the marriage took place in PA., on January 08, 1799. I show that he was born in 1777, but I do not show a source. Like I had said in an earlier note, most of the material with out a source came from Ethel Albin's book on the Skinners. I entered some of the material with out citing the source - A BIG MISTAKE. My Skinners come in with my 3rd great grandmother Rachel Skinner b. 1781 in PA probably Lower Turkeyfoot (if you have some evidence??) she married Nathaniel Rush in 1799 (without looking I don't know if I have actual evidence of this or just information received), Her parents are Samuel Skinner and Mary Drake. Nathaniel died in 1820 and some years later in 1831 Rachel Skinner Rush married Richard Skinner. This did not turn out happily. Do not know the details. I heard there was a divorce. Has anyone looked this up? Have not worked on this Richard Skinner. There were no children that I have ever heard of. Rachel would have been 50 in 1831. Was Richard also from Lower Turkeyfoot? 3. Hi Janet - A genealogists nightmare! Two guys with the same name living in the same area at the same time!! And in this case both Andrew Smiths married girls named Elizabeth...........they both were in Fairfield/Perry very early....both donated land and money to establish churches .......and both of these Andrew Smith's had large families who had lots of kids who spread out all over the place! The challenge to sort them all out and separate one family from the other has been HUGE! I'm not sure I've figured it out yet......but I'm chipping away at it! ;-) I know of your Anna Maria Smith who m. John Rousculp altho I have that name spelled as Rauschkolb...no doubt the same guy! The dates you gave me match. I have her connection to the family....bros/'sisters/parents etc. I received the most help on this puzzle from Caral Mechling Bennet of Arlington, Va. ----who was on this list for awhile but has been very quiet of late. She sent me a LOT of info on this Andrew Smith family (unfortunately not MY Andrew Smith) which I have carefully filed away for future reference. It gives lots of names and dates that you might find useful. She tells me that YOUR Andrew Smith was a twin....and his parents lived in Northumberland Co., PA......church records found at the Himmel Church, Rebuck, Pa. I thought she mentioned where they came from before that......but I can't find that note right at the moment. Caral also suggested that I contact James H. Smith who lives near Somerset, Ohio....who had done a lot of research on YOUR Andrew! I also have the name of Mark Smith who lives in the area of Pleasantville....think he's one of your cousins too. Think that's about all I can tell you today. If you'll give me your mailing address, I'll copy these pages of data from Caral and send them along to you. Maybe they'll help. And in the meantime......if you find MY Andrew Smith.....please send up the rockets!! ;-) Phyllis -----Original Message----- From: Janet Martin [mailto:jrmartin@erols.com] Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2001 7:18 AM To: phyllis@webnet.com Subject: Re: [OHPERRY] I have your Sarah Smith! Phyllis, I wondered what you have on Smiths earlier than Andrew, or related lines. I have a ggggg grandmother who was Anna Maria Smith, m. John Philip Rousculp. Her dates were 1784-1872 and she is buried in Smith's graveyard in Perry County. I believe she was Andrew's sister. I corresponded with a man in Arkansas who had a good deal of information on the Smith family. He had taken on the seemingly impossible task of tracing all the descendants of a Smith ancestor an generation or two farther back than Anna and Andrew, and had collected an impressive amount of information. He was able to fill in several blanks for me. I suffered a computer crash not long after that and lost my saved e-mail, so I'd have to do some digging to find his address. 3. I forgot to answer your question on the Johnson family - Edna May Johnson (brn 1888) married Albert Atkinson. Edna's father was James Clark Johnson. Thank you for the dates on Mary - I haven't gotten to her for in-depth research yet. I would love any information you have on her parents, birthplace, etc. John Dishon was born around 1820 in Pennsylvania. I don't have a death date on him yet. They appear together in the Perry Co 1850 Census in Saltlick Township. I don't know John's father's name, but his mother was Catherine Kessler. I've attached a short report on her to this email. It's in MS Word format. Let me know if you can read it - I would have made it RTF, but I'm having some issues with my genealogy software. :) If you would like, I can also send you a family group sheet for John and Mary's family, or whatever else you would like. 3. Stacy, let me take the Ayers first, as it there is apparently no recent connection, as my Ayers where is Pa in the early 1700's. My Skinner information is from Ethel Albin and Susan N. who is also on the list. I posted Mary's parents early this evening. I will also send you an MS word file on Mary. Your MS word file did not make it through the server. I would like a copy of the report, but you will most likely have to send it directly to me. I posted Mary's parents in an earlier note this evening. Byron -----Original Message----- From: Stacy R. 3. Barb, Mary's parent are James Skinner, January 18, 1783 in Lower Turkey Foot Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania, died May 27, 1834 and Hannah Couples May 03, 1785, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, date of death unknown. Mary had at least one brother, Samuel Skinner, born 1808. Also, some one had mention that they though Mary was born in Indiana - this Mary was born in and died in Perry county. Though several of the Skinners and Lannings did move to Indiana, at a later date. James is the son of Samuel Skinner and Mary Drake, one of 9 children. The information on the Skinners is from Ethel Albin's book, which includes a great deal of information on both the Lannings and Skinner families. In addition, she has another book of letters, written between various branches of the family. If you are interested in contacting her, contact me off of the list.
