Margery, I can send you all I have on the Middaugh line that I have if you send me your snail mail address. I have no way of sending it through the computer. Helen
This site has been entirely too quiet since our Manager went to work full time and is a busy lady. Could I stir things up a bit by asking about my elusive ancestor? It has been a while, perhaps we have a newbie on the site who knows something about my guy and his family. I am trying always to find the parents of Joseph PETTY b. Mar. 18, 1765 and his wife Elizabeth whose maiden name is still up for grabs between the MIDDAG and VANATTA families. Both claim her but neither has documentation that we can find. 1. Their oldest child was John, b. 1785 in NJ. He live in Perry Co. and married Delia Danison who apparently died sometime between 1820 and 1830. John is later found in Clark Co. where he married Martha Fort. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF HE HAD CHILDREN W/ Delia or Martha. IF HE DID THERE SURELY MUST BE DESCENDANTS. 2. Moses, b. 1787 ended up in Lawrence Co., Ill. He married a WAGNER woman. 3. Mary Ann married Aaron VANATTA, s/o of John and Mary VANATTA. Following Aaron's early demise she married an ANGLE. After his death, she married Rev. John LEHMAN. She had children w/ Aaron VANATTA and ANGLE. 4. Susanna married Stephen VANATTA. 5. Betsy (Elizabeth) married a PEPPLE and went to Ill. 6. Aaron was a blacksmith who lived in New Lexington and died young. He had married Agnes McCreary and had at least 4 children. I KNOW NOTHING AT ALL ABOUT THESE CHILDREN EXCEPT THEIR NAMES MENTIONED IN THE DEATH INFO. Are their any Pettys remaining in the area or surrounding counties? 7. Jacob married Amelia BARNES and remained on the home farm outside Somerset. He and his father, Joseph, donated land for the school. This is my line. 8. Sarah married a PARGIN and went to ILL. 9. Margaret, b. 1791, married Henry STOLTZ and lived in ILL. for a period of time I think. She had a son Jeff/Josiah PETTY prior to her marriage. Jeff went to ILL, married a WAGNER woman, and remained in ILL. 10. Joseph PETTY, Jr. married Elizabeth CLOVER. They moved to Ill. also. If you are descended from any of these lines, be they Petty or allied lines, you might have information that would help me get the entire family lined up. I DO NOT WANT TO WRITE A BOOK! I just want to get my ancestry together in one place to leave for my descendants. Please, if you have anything on these names or COLEMAN, MAJORS, MURDOCK, SHORT, I would like to hear from you. Marjory PETTY Austen MAPPAusten@aol.com
My mother was born in New Lexington in 1916 to Samuel E. STOWE and Mary G. LITTLE. Samuel's father was Myron Ernest Stowe, his grandfather was Rev. Theodore Stowe. I believe that the Stowe family came to Ohio in the early 1800's. Theodore's father, Abijah, died in Athens County in 1826. Mary Gertrude Little's family settled in Monday Creek in 1834. Her father, James, married Mary Ann "Mollie" MAHER in 1878 at St. Rose's Church. Would love to connect with anyone who is researching any of these lines. Hoping to hear from you, Mary>>>samlevy@aol.com<<<<<

I'll check my Jones lines; I have several William Joneses and one of them might have moved up from Shawnee to McLuney (which is not far at all). Your William MIGHT have been a descendant of Owen Jones from Wales, who settled in Shawnee soon after the founding of the town in 1871. Thank you everyone for the kind comments! And thank you for bearing with me as I get everything organized and back online. I enjoy working on the site and helping others in their research. I know how fustrated I get when I visit a county site and it isn't much more than a collection of links or it hasn't been updated in months, so that is what I strive not to do! So I'm just happy knowing its a useful site! There is so much more to come yet! This week (towards the end) the 1860 transcribed info will be back online. Actually, most of it is new thanks to volunteers! (There were two townships previously online.) Over half of the 1860 census is now transcribed, so as soon as I finish proofing some of these and organize them, they will be online. The completed townships are: Bearfield, Clayton, Harrison, Hopewell, Jackson, Monday Creek, Reading and Thorn. I will send a message out to the list once I get those online. Thanks again for all the wonderful comments and support and I wish you much luck in your research! Best Regards, Angela Kneller angela@kneller.com

Regarding the will of John Wilson who died 1823 and had a wife Jane and the following children: Samuel, Sara, John and James and other children not named: My ancestor John Wilson, born about 1796 in PA, is listed in the 1830, 1840 and 1850 Perry Co., Hopewell Twp. census. He and his wife Esther had the following children: Rebecca, Charles, Esther, Josiah, David, Uziah, Mary and Rachel. Since John's wife Esther was also from PA, it is possible they married there before moving to OH. Most of their family moved from OH to IA around 1850. Since I do not know who John's parents were, it is possible that he is the "John" listed in the will as a son of John and Jane Wilson. Were any of your ancestors born in PA? The Perry Co. Marriage Book reports a marriage between James Wilson and Magdeline Garliner, so it is possible that he was the "James" listed in the will. Other than my ancestor John, there was only one other Wilson living in Hopewell Twp by 1850 Census: Madilene Wilson, b. PA, and her children. (There were lots of Wilsons living near each other in Hopewell twp in 1830.) As far as the location of the land purchased by a John Wilson in 1811: I do not think it is possible for the land you described to be in Perry Co., since "Range 5" would be much further east in OH. Sherole, Thanks for looking. Yes, I do have all of the info. you talked about. We have never been able to prove too much about John Journey being born in Maryland 1790. Or that he was married to an Elizabeth Green? If I can find where she is buried in Perry County then I'll believe her name was Elizabeth. Some of those sources haven't always been reliable. Herb

In her farm house on the Clark farm in the northeast corner of Hopewell Township, Perry County, Ohio, in the summer of 1828, Ada Orr Clark, cleaned up her four children, dressed her eldest child, Betty Jean (9), in her best dress, John Evan(7), in his knickers, Anna Louise (4), in a frilly dress, William Holmes (8 months) also in a cute little dress. She loaded them in her buggy and drove them the mile or so to Mount Perry. They visited with "Aunt Tillie." She was the widow, Matilida Eversole. She was born Oct 7, 1850. Her husband, Peter W. Eversole, born July 22, 1849, had died Sept 28, 1895. This important visit is remembered by BJ Clark Laube and she wonders why did they visit Aunt Tillie? BJ can't imagine her mother leaving the farmhouse work and taking her children to causally visit a friend. Aunt Tillie must be related, but we can not find the connection. Dean Harkness a descendant of the first Peter Eversole, and his cousin, William Ralston of Pittsburgh, recently told us about this Matilida. We then located them in the Mount Perry cemetery. They are buried in row 6 in Section A. Matilida died September 17, 1939. I have checked all the Clark, Orr, Bowser females born 1850, in our data base and I can't find Aunt Tillie. Could someone please check the marriage records of Perry County for about 1870 Matilida someone married Peter W. Eversole. If we don't find it in Perry County we will check Licking and Muskingum. Regards Hal
