My Grandfather, Allen VanBuren Griffin, was born in Perry County in 1856. Son of Henry Griffin and Sarah Rush Griffin. He had a brother named Sylvester Griffin who married Isabella Spurgeon, Feb 26, 1864, Perry Co. Does anyone have info re: the above? Thank you, Sherole
Can anyone tell me specifically where Day Ridge Road is located in Monroe Township? It doesn't show on my map. The 1920 census lists my ancestors, Jacob Samuel Epley, as living on Day Ridge Road. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Jim Neal JNEAL2@san.rr.com

I made a mistake by listing Andrew Griffin as the Father of Henry Griffin. I don't know the Father of Henry Griffin b. abt. 1805. Henry Griffin was born in Pa. Dear Harold, I am so sorry my Pepple information has confused you, I have collected information on them for years and I am still confused also. My ancestor is Abraham Pepple b. abt. 1790, probably in MD, married 1812, Abraham appears on the 1820 census (sounds like him) in Frederick Co., MD, p. 181 in Taney Town Dist., 1 male 0-10 which would be Abram, 1 m. 26045 which would be Abraham and 2 f. 0-10, Mary Ann and Margaret. He appears on the same page as Peter Snoke. Abraham m. Elizabeth Snoke, dau. of Peter. His daughter Elizabeth is my ancestor, she was probably b. in 1822 in Hagerstown, MD. Courthouse records show Abraham Pepple selling prop. to Henry Shriner in Frederick Co. 6 Nov. 1822. Abraham's daughter Emily was b. in OH, (1825) according to the 1850 census. Abraham purchased 64 acres in Rushcreek Twp., Fairfield Co., OH 26 Dec. 1829. On the 1830 census of Fairfield Co., OH Elizabeth Peble appears with 1 m. 10-15 (Abram), 1 f. under 5 (Nancy), 2 f. 5-10, Elizabeth and Emily, 1 f. 10-15 Margaret, 1 f. 15-20 Mary and 1 f. 30-40 Elizabeth. They are on the same page as Peter Snoke, 60-70. Elizabeth Pepple appears on the 1840 census in Fairfield Co., OH (Rushcreek), Mary Ann m. Solomon Evans 5 Nov. 1835 therefore does not appear with the family. Margaret signed her X and sold her 1/6 of the 64 acres bought by her father Abraham Pepple in 1829, she sold 3 February and m. Isaac Blosser 29 March 1840. Sold for $20 to Henry Krout. Abram Pepple signed X, sold his 1/6 of the 64 acres, he sold to his brother in law, Solomon Evans, $20. Elizabeth Pepple, dau. of Abraham and Elizabeth m. Peter Seifert, 17 Nov.1842 in Fairfield Co., OH Emily Pepple, dau of Abraham and Elizabeth m. Andrew J. Sites, 5 Feb. 1843 in Fairfield Co., OH Nancy Pepple sold her 1/6 of the 64 acres in January 1850, to her mother Elizabeth for $50. Elizabeth, the mother sold this property to Peter Seifert, 30 July 1850, not to effect dower right of said Elizabeth (dau.), Peter Seifert's wife. Nancy m. Marguis Askins, 31 March 1850 in Fairfield Co., OH Elizabeth (mother) was living with Elizabeth Seifert's family in the 1850 census Elizabeth (mother) died in 1863, living with dau. Margaret Pepple Blosser, son Abram was in Boone Co., IA According to information in the George R. Seifert papers in the York Co., PA historical society: Abraham Pepple died about 1830, killed in a teaming accident. THIS IS ALL DOCUMENTED. There are no other Pepples in the area, except an estate of Anton Pepple who died in 1864, he is buried in Fairfield Co. with a tombstone and was cared for until death by Cha. F. Bauman, the estate was quite interesting but I have so far been unable to figure out who her was. He was b.25 Nov. 1811 and d. 19 July 1864, 53y. The items he owns are interesting. The information I have on Jacob Pepple would make it seem like he could have belonged to Jacob Pepple's family, I have a wife's name for Jacob Pepple b. ca. 1865 of Margaret Flegal, names are similar, they lived very close, Jackson Twp., Perry Co. is quite near Rushcreek Twp., Fairfield Co. BUT I DO NOT HAVE PROOF OF THIS. I did want to touch bases with you but do not have time at the moment to go through my book and give you all the info. on Jacob but I will get back to you. ch. of Jacob: Jacob, CA 1788 MD' Abraham ? b. abt. 1790 Mary Pepple b. abt. 1796 m. John Ridinger 20 Mar. 1815 Frederick Co, MD Susannah Pepple b. abt. 1797 m.Daniel Snoke, 9 Sep. Frederick Co., MD Margaret Pepple b. abt. 1801, PA m. Abraham Branner, 30 March 1826 Perry Co. Joseph Pepple b. 8 May 1804 MD m. Elizabeth Petty (I have loads of info on them) Jesse Pepple b. abt. 1805 m. Mary Ann Tipple 30 Dec. 1835 John Pepple b. 15 Sep. 1818 Ringgold, MD m. Anna Baker 1840 Richland Co., OH I will get back to you. Sorry Joanne

Barbara, Thank you for the information. Now how do i go about getting a birth record for Glenna? Also, what Cottermans do you have. I have:Nettie Cotterman born 1892 to James C. Ruth, No trouble at all. Will try and get it in the mail on Monday. Helen
My GGrandfather, Henry Griffin, is listed on the 1850 census in Perry Co. Salt Lick Township, Old Straitsville, 38, Physician, born in Pa. GGrandmother was Sarah Rush Griffin,33, born in Ohio. Children - John W. 11, Henry J. 9, Silvester 7, Margaret (Maggie) A. 4, Sarah (she did not use her first name and went by Elizabeth) Elizabeth 2, Mary 1 month. They had two more children born in Perry Co. between the 1850 and 1860 census James b. abt. 1851 and Allen VanBuren (my grandfather) b. 1856. Henry Griffin's Father's name was Andrew born in Pa. Does anyone have any information re: any of the above? The Henry Griffins moved to Hocking County sometime after 1856. I found them on the 1860 census in Hocking Co. Allen VanBuren was born in Perry Co. in 1856. Since Henry Griffin was listed as a Dr. (we were always told that he was an Indian Medicine Dr. and I think this lore comes from the fact that he probably wasn't a licensed Dr. but mixed herbs and Doctored the settlement of Old Straitsville) there should be something about him in the history of Old Straitsville. He and Sarah Rush Griffin are buried in the Old Stone Church. There is no documentation regarding this. Only my memory of going there on Decoration Day and putting flowers on their unmarked graves. My Grandfther, Allen Griffin, was Catholic but broke from the church when he married my Grandmother, Effie Woods Griffin. Also, how can I get Henry and Sarah listed as being buried in the Old Stone Church Cemetery since I know this personally but there is no actual paper trail? Henry Jr. died Sept. 25, 1872, Single, died in Hocking, Ward, born in Perry Co., Farmer, unknown cause of death. Reported by Elizabeth Bates (probably his sister). I found this in the archives in Hocking Co.
