OK - thanks, Sue! What is the exact office? Do you still have a phone number for them? I will be headed back to Ohio next week and if I can contact them in advance, perhaps I can head down to Shawnee and help them identify the records. Political officials have changed over the years, and I no longer have a connection to this office. I can't comment on their response should you try and contact them directly. Cem. publication. I worked on this project and I recall the cemetery in Rendville on the hill. There were many unmarked graves and some unreadable markers. We did the best we could in recording the data on the stones and also included any earlier readings. The Rendville area is "now" known as a largely Negro community in our county. This particular cem. sits atop of a hill (at the end of a road) and one must travel past some houses that make one feel less than safe if you know what I mean. I don't mean to aim that at the Negro population solely, because there are white families there, too. It's just a very poor area and somewhat spooky? Another cemetery that may be a place of his burial is the Chapel Hill cem. which is also on a hill, but a little farther out in the country. I read this one, too and find there are a lot of unmarked graves and unreadable stones here, too. He may be there since it is noted as a Catholic Cem.?? Burns is Catholic, right? If so, have you tried contacting the Catholic Records Soc. in Col. Ohio for any records on him. It was hard to make a choice, especially since one of the the finalists is in the town I grew up in and also worthy of winning. However, after thinking it over, I decided yours was more important and needed the grant more. I feel your project is also of value to the whole state, and so I voted for you. Best of luck. Genealogy friends and OGS chapter members, On Friday, we received word from Time Warner cable that our Jackson County chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society (JCOGS) has been chosen as one of 5 finalists for a statewide "Save Our History" grant award for the work that we are doing to save from further destruction the James Cemetery in Jackson, Ohio. Of the 5 finalists, we are the only genealogy society chosen and we are also the only organization picked from our southern Ohio area. Beginning Monday, April 16th and continuing thru 4/27, you can have an impact by going online and VOTING for our project!! And PLEASE, forward this email to your family, genealogy friends, work partners where permitted, etc whose email address you have. The link to the Time Warner site where you can vote NOW is: http://www.AroundRR.com/SaveOurHistory While all 5 projects are worthy candidates for this award, the Jackson County chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society hopes that this is an opportunity for the genealogy community to unite, speak with your vote and let it be known that there are many of you who also feel the need to protect these sacred family cemeteries. Thanks for your help and again PLEASE VOTE. And just as importantly, please FOWARD THIS EMAIL to your circle of genealogy friends, etc. Anthony Coyan, Secretary - Jackson County chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society

A larger stone was erected and both Patrick and his mother, Elizabeth Burns names were engraved on the stone. Family stories say Patrick Sr was buried in Rendville/Corning area on a hill. Michele, In the "Perry Co. Ohio Probate Birth Index, 1867 - 1908" we find: Patrick Burns, m/w, married, d.Aug. 5, 1900, 42 yr. 1 mo., b. Scotland, d. Rendville, miner, cause of death - pneumonia. In the "Cemeteries of Pike Township, Perry Co. Ohio," (New Lexington / Maplewood Cemetery) we find two listings for Patrick Burns. One has no dates and is listed with August Steffin. The other is listed with and as the son of Elizabeth Burns. His dates are 1890 -1918 Co. D 118th Engrs. WW marker. These two markers are side by side in the cemetery. I'm looking for information on Isaiah CURL. He was born in Ohio and married Elizabeth MARTIN in Perry Co, 1872. They later moved to Beaver Falls PA, where they are both buried. I believe his parents were Andrew CURL and Lorina BOLDOSIN, also of Perry Co. I haven't been able to confirm this though. I'm hoping to find more information on Andrew. Isaiah & Elizabeth were my great grandparents. Thanks. Kaye Coller
