Here's the Ohio Historical Society index for what newspapers they have, and which ones you can get through inter-library loan. I have a general question that maybe someone can answer. Do newspapers keep copies of their own papers? I know a physical newspaper could take up a lot of space, but does the company keep a copy (microfilm) as a rule? Or do they depend on a library to do that. I phoned a paper in Nebraska once when I was looking for an obituary. They said they had no old papers and seemed surprised that I thought they would have them. I would think at some point they'd want to go back and see what was printed in their paper. Lori

Thanks every one, that is Allen C. Cremeans that died March 26, 1990 . And his wife Margaret Reed Cremeans died June 19, 1982. I`ll find the library and see if i can get the obits. Thanks Nancy.

Have to defend a bit. I worked on a weekly newspaper for several years and I'm telling you there is no time to look up things for people. Between "getting the paper" out, getting the news, and taking care of other work, you are tired at the end of the day. OHS has most newspapers filmed. And they interlibrary. They are probably not that overworked, but that just isn't their job. They are paid to put out the paper. It's true that some newspapers are more genealogy "friendly" with their lookups, but more and more are becoming less accommodating. Also more papers are charging for the lookups. Nancy, Would this be your Allen C,. Cremeans, died June 10, 1990 Shawnee, Ohio? did a quick check in ohio death and ssdeath index and there are a couple who could be him without knowing anymore specific details than were given. Did not see any obit listed than in a list of surviving kin of a lady who died in west virginia I believe. There is an obitutary listed for the above Allen Cremeans in the perry county obituary card file index published by the Perry County Chapter of OGS, if you write to the Perry County Chapter of OGS, someone may be able to copy the obit for you for a nominal fee of $1.00 per page (I could be wrong on this). The obituary card file is located in the genealogy room at the library in new lexington, ohio there is also an obit. for a margaret Cremeans. Good morning to all you Perry Co. descendents,,, Have any of you noticed that so many Perry Co. residents live to such ripe old ages, do you think there is something in the water there? My own family has also lived very long lives, my g grandfather that was born there was 85 at his death, my grandfather was 83, and my father was 92 and his sister 97..... hmmmm, maybe we're missing out on something.
