I have looked up the definition of the word "LIBRARY" in six different dictionaries and in every single one it says that a library is a place to house reference materials for the purpose of study and/or entertainment. Here is how Mr. Webster defines the word "LIBRARY": 1 a: a place in which literary, musical, artistic, or reference materials (as books, manuscripts, recordings, or films) are kept for use but not for sale b: a collection of such materials How can the Perry County Public Library consider getting rid of the Genealogy room and still call themselves a "LIBRARY"? If the purpose for ousting the genealogy collection is to provide a room for children, as was stated in the newspaper, then why is there so much talk about this room not being available as a conference or meeting room? It sounds to me like it won't be available as a meeting room at all, but will be more or less a "play room" for children, which Is not in the definition of "LIBRARY" anyplace I've looked. Just for clarity, I've included Roget's take on what a "LIBRARY" is: Main Entry: library Part of Speech: noun Definition: book repository Synonyms: athenaeum, atheneum, bibliotheca, book collection, book room, information center, media center, reference center, study Source: Roget's New Millennium Thesaurus, First Edition (v 1.3.1) Copyright © 2008 by Lexico Publishing Group, LLC. All rights reserved. Sounds to me like the head honchos over at the library need to bone up on what a "LIBRARY" really is. What is the motivation to removed this valuable collection from the public library? Preserving history certainly isn't it. Our publication - Pre - 1900 Obits. and Death Notices has only one listing for Musselman. This was for Wm. who died Feb 5, 1862. It was a very brief death notice. The Ohio Historical Society has an index of what papers were published in Ohio - you can search by title, date, county, etc. The search form is here: http://dbs.ohiohistory.org/newspaper/home.cfm You can obtain microfilm via inter-library loan for a nominal fee (the last time I did this, it was $3.00.) When it arrives at your local library, you can usually use it only in-library, but they'll keep it for you if you need it more than one day. For 1852 in Perry County, the search unearths two newspapers: Microfilm Roll Title City Roll 34813 Perry County Democrat Somerset 9 / 4 / 1849 - 10 / 26 / 1853 Roll 34812 Post Somerset 3 / 7 / 1850 - 4 / 4 / 1855 I hope this helps, Stacy On Feb 27, 2008, at 2:04 PM, The Williams' wrote: > Doubt you could even find newspapers published in 1852 > Carole Williams > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "rea noneya" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2008 1:28 PM > Subject: Re: [OHPERRY] 1852 Obits > > >> Angie, >> >> Do you know if there are any obits for the year 1852?
