Here is my brick wall: Hannah ZARLEY (daughter of the 'Show Girl') born 5 May 1818 in Somerset, PA or Zanesville, OH; died 6 May 1911 in Nickerson, Reno, KS; married 24 Dec 1835 in Perry Co, OH to Daniel GRINDLE. Hannah and Daniel raised 11 children (John, Henry, Mary, Jacob 'Polk', Lydia Jane, Susannah, Alva, James, Margaret, Hannah Maria, Lemuel) It was passed down that Hannah's mother died when she was born. I've since learned that that might not be true. Possibly the family was ashamed. She was left with a Mrs. SKINNER (grandmother in Perry Co., OH) to be raised Family tradition says that Hannah (the daughter) was 'cheated' out of an inheritance by the SKINNERs. The reason has been lost through the years. Hannah's mother's name was possibly Hannah SKINNER (passed down thru family) Hannah's father's name was possibly Emil ZARLEY (of Fayette PA), who was French (passed down thru family) Hannah's mother was a 'Show Girl' who had a beautiful singing voice; Money was sent for her daughter's care, but it dwindled after a while, then stopped completely; Laura Koehn bradlara@sbcglobal.net
