This article appeared in The Adamsville Register, Adamsville, Ohio Wednesday 31 July 1935 REVIEW of EVENTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED IN ADAMSVILLE IN PAST 10 YEARS On 28 July 1925 the present publishers of the Register and their family arrived in Adamsville and took command of the paper. That was 10 years ago the Sunday just past. No one unless they have kept in close contact with events in a community can scarcely realize the many changes that take place in 10 years. We shall endeavor to recount some of the more important occurrences that have come under our observation in the past decade. We shall begin our reminiscences by naming the change in residences as we remember them during the past 10 years. The house in which James Browning and family now resides was occupied by Miss Jennie Noble; the Oliver Trittipo home now occupied by Mr and Mrs Hugh Pickens; Rev Hubbard lived in the Methodist parsonage, now the home of Rev and Mrs Gibson; the Charles Ketchum property now occupied by Mr and Mrs Fred Ketchum and family; the Susan Young home now occupied by Mr and Mrs Roy Black; the Phillip Beck property now the home of Mr and Mrs J A Littick; the Mrs Kate Wortman property where Mrs Susan Young and daughter Miss Lillie now reside; the Charles Snoots house now the home of Ralph Littick and family; the Buckeye Mutual Inc Company office now the home of Paul Darner and family; the C W Sarbaugh house now occupied by Harry Johnson and family; the Saffle brick house now vacant but will be occupied soon by Marten Bartels and family; the Mrs Browning property now the home of Frank Bowden; the Willis Bradford property now occupied by Clyde Vernon and family; the Mrs Rachel Bradford home now the residence of A H McHenry and family; the H L Cogsill property now the home of C H Thompson and family; the Woodson house where ye editor and family lived for nearly 10 years, now occupied by Mr and Mrs Lester Stotts; the Cal Buker property now the home of Clarence Darner and family; the Mrs Aler property now occupied by Harry Spragg and family; the Jared Darner home now the residence of John Radcliffe and family; the Ralph Williams home now occupied by Ernest Miller and family; the Charles Edwards home now the residence of Mr and Mrs Clarence Bradford; another Charles Edwards property now the home of Mrs Ella Buckalew; the James Richardson house now occupied by ye editor and family; the house adjoining the L R Abbott store was occupied by Dr West and family now the home of Mr and Mrs Ralph Wohlheter; the Bainter office building, the office of Dr Hunt now occupied as a barber shop and home of Mr and Mrs J E Feagans; the old Register and Post Office now operated as confectionary and pool room by Clair Sarbaugh; the Irvin Wheeler property now the home of Chester Littick and family; the Sarah Barrett property now occupied by Mrs Mollie Stotts and family; the Lutheran parsonage, the home of J F D Bowersox now occupied by Rev Recker and family; the Miss Ella Hillier property now the home of Mr and Mrs Lou Thompson; the Miss Martha Gaumer property now the home of A R Stiers, occupied by Mrs Ada Thomas and family; the Ira Wine property now the home of Loren Wisecarver and family; the Mrs Mary J Bell property now occupied by James Leachman and family; the Elizabeth Spragg property now the home of Mr and Mrs Homer Shirer; the Sam Lane property now occupied by the Sam Sniff family; the Catherine Shroyer home now the home of Lewis Dayton and family; the Paul Adams home now occupied by Marion Milstead and family; the Fred Dailey property now the home of Curtis Sarbaugh and family; the Atkinson property now occupied by John Fields and family; the A O Adams Mill property the home of home of A H McHenry and family 10 years ago now occupied by Lew Collins and family. Many of these properties have been the homes of from two to four or five families during the varying periods in the past decade. Two homes were destroyed by fire and not replaced, the S B Ball home and confectionary and the Marion Milstead home in the past 10 years, also C W Sarbaugh warehouse destroyed by fire but replaced. Wrecking of the buildings included the Gerber house, the Mrs Wortman house, the Sedwick house, the Ella Buckalew barn, the Sarah Barrett barn, C E Darner barn. New construction during the past 10 years were the Charles Edwards house, Albert Sturtz house, C W Sarbaugh warehouse, the Register building, the A R Stiers home, Paul Radcliffe warehouse Isaac Bradford garage, Ralph Littick garage, Paul Darner shop, C H Thompson garage, H E Shirer morgue, S L Shepfer addition to garage, C E Darner barn, Marion Milstead garage, Marion Milstead repairing and rebuilding house, Frank Bowden garage, Bruce Doughty granary, John Cornell house, Homer Shirer remodeling house and school auditorium. Incidentally in the way of Improvement in which Adamsville and community have benefited might be mentioned the installing of electricity here, the improvement of all of our roads and streets in the village (with the exception of the Zanesville Road which was improved in 1916) and about one mile of concrete sidewalks laid in Adamsville. all this within the past decade. All three of the general stores in Adamsville have changed ownership during the past 10 years. The Red and White store, F E Smith, in the Sarbaugh store, J M Shinn bought the Will Roberts store and L R Abbott the Gordon Browning store, J E Feagans and Floyd Bondy are the new barbers since the death of Willis Bradford, about four months ago. The changes in residence in country surrounding Adamsville have been as numerous as in the village. Many new residents have come and gone and others have taken their places. A directory of these newcomers would read like a directory of some distant city, the names are so unfamiliar. The death of Adamsville citizens in the past 10 years number 55 and include: Mrs Harriet Vernon, Mrs Mahala Skinner, Carson Hanks, Oliver Trittipo, William Honnold, Mrs Charles Ketchum, Charles Ketchum, Curtis Lowe, Mrs Jane Lowe, Phillip Beck, Mrs Kate Wortman, Ira Dailey, Mrs Charles Sarbaugh, Mrs Marha Saffle, Willis Bradford, Mrs Mary Browning, Emanuel Nixon, Mrs Marha Doughty, Mrs Rachel Bradford, H L Cogsill, Mrs Harmon Darner, Basil Spragg, Mrs Charles Aler, Mrs Jared Darner, Mrs Mrs Charles Edwards, James Richardson, Mrs James Richardson, Elijah F Buker, Erwin Wheeler, William Elsea, Mrs Mary Stewart, Miss Sarah Barrett, son of Mr and Mrs Rollie Stotts, Ira Thomas, infant twins of Mr and Mrs Harley Bowden, Mrs Addison Stiers, George Clossen, Mrs Mary Miles, Mrs Mary J Bell, George Shrigley, Mrs Catherine Newell, Mrs Catherine Shroyer, Mrs Anna Adams, Marshall King, Henry Darner, Lon Nims, Mrs Capitola Stotts, Mrs Matilda Swope, Sam Bagent, Mrs Ben Spicer, infant of Mr and Mrs Ralph Littick, Mrs Sarah Shores, Mrs Mary King, infant child of Mrs Dora Morrison grandchild of Mrs Mollie Stotts. We hope the above will prove of interest to our readers in the way of refreshing their memories of the events of the past few years.
