ROLL Zanesville - James L. "Hippie" Roll, 63, of 4050 Edwards Drive, died at 12:20 pm Tuesday, Jan 24, 1995, at Good Samaritan Hospice Center after a short illness. Mr. Roll was born May 21, 1931, in Zanesville. A lifetime resident, he was retired from the Muskingum Mine Co. He was a member of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post No 29, Eagles Lodge of Cambridge and the United Mine Workers Association as a heavy equipment operator. Surviving are his wife, Bernice E. Jones Roll, whom he married Feb 17, 1979; a daughter Rita Jean Beauchamp of Algonquin IL; a son, Rodney J. Roll of Zanesville; a step-daughter, Mary Mann of Zanesville; two step-sons, Victor Ashton of Adamsville and Delbert Ashton of Jackson; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three sisters, Katherine Hazen, Virginia Hedges, and Eileen Ziemer, all of Zanesville; two brothers, George Roll of Zanesville and Bernard Roll of Columbus. Mr. Roll was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard O. and Laura Romick Roll; two brothers, Donald Roll and Theodore Roll. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 pm Thursday, Jan 26, 1995 at Bryan Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am Friday, Jan 27, 1995, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Father Crain Eilerman officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
