I dont kow how many gaps there are in the coverage, and you have to pay to use the site. A hint: - OCR (Optical character recognnition) doesnt produce great indexes on older papers, so if you know the date just go straight to the relevant papers and look at them page by page. http://news.google.com/archivesearch returns hits in the above database, and will give you a free snippet of the article, but is also limited in accuracy by the OCR scans.
