In 1858, he was summoned to appear in court to give cause as to why he should continue as guardian. The sheriff's note on the summons says that John Hammel could not be found. Hammel and the two minors appear to have left Muskingum County by 1860 and no record of them has yet been found. In 1870, the young women are living with their aunt Rachel in Columbus, Ohio. Maxa and Eliza were the daughters of George Morgan Lenhart and Jane Hammel Lenhart. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
