I know the wagon train left the Zanesville area of Muskingum County, Ohio, in the spring of 1871. This train was the second to arrive in Smith Co. Kansas. The first arrived there from Pennsylvania in the spring of 1871, and the second train arrived August 1, 1871. I know the wagons contained several families of Hammonds, several Chadwicks, some Kings, Rogers, St Clairs and Andersons. I have found no reference to any Stithem. All of the travellers settled in Smith and Osborne Counties and almost all were in the area know as 'the Valley'. Thier school district was know as district number 12. The majority of these early pioneers are buried in the Hammond Cemetery near Harlan, Kansas. The Chadwicks are buried near Portis, Kansas, in Osborne County.
