Ernie was born on March 4, 1919, in Zanesville, Ohio to Ferdinand and Mayme Clossman Koska. She attended the Marlborough School in Los Angeles, Wellesley College in Massachusetts, and UCLA, also in Los Angeles. She lived with her beloved husband, Burwell Bassett (B.B.) in York, Pennsylvania and Palm Beach, Florida before moving to Montecito, California in 1970. Ernie was a supporter of the Music Academy of the West and the Santa Barbara Museum. She was also on the board of the Saint Francis Hospital. Her many friends and family were very important to her. For years, her favorite place to be has been with friends at the Café del Sol. She will be greatly missed by those who have cared for her. Ernie loved life. She is survived by her daughter Melinda Fox, her son Christopher Smith and his wife Susan, and five grandchildren: Jonathan and Brent Reed, B.J. Fox, and Eric and Jessie Smith. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that you please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association. A memorial service will be held at All Saints by the Sea Episcopal Church, Santa Barbara, California, on Tuesday, October 3rd, at 11 AM. Burial will follow, at a later date, at Prospect Hill Cemetery in York, Pennsylvania.
