I researched my Headley family ancestry online two years ago and have quite a bit of information accumulated on the entire line. Ironically, I have been unable to find the death record of my great-great grandfather who apparently became estranged from his family sometime after his children were born and they were living in Iowa. I have not yet tried making contacts with his older brother's descendants (Gamaliel Headley) that he was apparently quite close to at one time. I also have not tried making contacts with Helom's in-laws whose surname was Warrick/Warrack and were from McLean County, Illinois. I am particularly interested in connecting with Gamaliel's family since he was so close with my great-great grandfather. I have learned a lot about Gamaliel in my research. His obituary says he was a Civil War veteran, which would have been through voluntary service versus draft given his age at the time. However, I have found and visited his grave and it is not honored with the Civil War veteran medallion as it should be. I've made a few attempts to make contacts in Iowa and Ohio to re-verify my great-great uncle's service and remedy the situation, but have had no luck so far. A knowledgeable cousin has given me a few leads on contacts for that, so perhaps I will succeed this coming year. I would love to learn your relationship to the Headleys and exchange information with you or anyone else connected to this family line through blood or marriage. We have a small family Headley reunion each year in central Iowa the second Sunday of August each year. Primarily it is set up for the descendants of Cecil Headley (Helom's son), but all Headleys are welcome. Anyone with an interest in signing up for an email notification of the reunion can reply here.
