Brown, aged 66, one of the best known residents of this city, died at his home, 37 South Seventh Street at 11 o'clock Friday morning from a lingering illness. Apoplexy was the direct cause of his death. Mr. Brown had been in failing health for several months but apparently recovered and was able to be about the streets. Three weeks ago he suffered a stroke of apoplexy while conversing with his family and since that time his decline had been rapid. Mr. Brown was born and reared in this city and for many years, conducted a boarding house on South Fifth street and later in the old Harper Homestead on South seventh street. He possessed a cheerful disposition that made friends wherever he was acquainted. Possessing a voice of more than ordinary ability, he was in his youth popular in musical circles in this city, and for several years was the producer of amateur minstrel performances in the old Black's Music hall where the Y.M.C.A. is at present located. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Carrie Bulger Brown, one daughter, Miss Nellie Brown, of the home, and one brother and two sisters, Theodore Brown, Mrs. Belle Prout and Mrs. Richard (Elizabeth) Greiner, all of this city. A daughter, Miss Belle Brown, well-known musician, died about two years ago. Mr. Brown was the brother-in-law of Harry Bulger of New York, the well-known comedian. The Times Recorder, pub.
