She was born June 25, 1915, in Zanesville, OH the daughter of the late George W. and Sophia Cooper Sims. A graduate of Lash High School Class of 1933, she was member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, enjoyed rock collecting, gardening, travel and birds. Surviving Ruth is her daughter; Willa Ruth Deveny of Zanesville, son; Peter (Jeanne) Garich of Osprey, FL; grandchildren; Traci K. Deveny of Zanesville, Mischka J. (Steve) Winland of Zanesville, Peter (Christy) Garich of Beavercreek, OH and Daniel (Holly) Garich of Huber Heights, OH great- grandchildren; Douglas Mell and Charles Mell both of Zanesville, Jordan Garich and Jared Garich both of Beavercreek. Danny was born 10 September 1948 in Zanesville, the son of C Robert Kreis of Zanesville and Treasure L Arter Kreis, also of Zanesville. He was a 1968 graduate of Adamsville High School, and a veteran of the US Air Force, serving in Italy and Japan, during the Vietnam War. He was retired from Georgia Pacific Company in Columbus. He was a former member of St John’s Lutheran Church in Zanesville. Danny was a great golfer and sportsman. “No one could hit a ball like Danny Kreis”. He was inducted into the Zanesville District Golf Association Hall of Fame in October 2005. He won many honors, and was well known in local golf circles. He was an avid Ohio State Football fan. He is survived by his long time companion Charlotte Vickers of the home, his daughter and son-in-law Gina and Ben Jessup and grandson Asa Daniel Jessup all of the home. One brother R Douglas Kreis of Zanesville; three sisters Diane Dalton (Don Baker) of Zanesville, Debbie (Greg) Strohl of Somerset and Darla (Rich) Wieber of Herron Bay, Thornville. This obituary appeared in The Adamsville Register, Adamsville, Ohio GRANDMOTHER BELL DEAD After Over A Century's Sojourn On Earth She Goes to Her Home Beyond the Grave Grandmother Rachel Bell died at the home of her daughter Mrs Elizabeth Minick four miles east of Adamsville on Wednesday 15 January 1913 at the ripe old age of 101 years, 2 months and 10 days. Her death was due to dropsy complicated with other diseases which she had been suffering for several months. Thus passed away a woman whose remarkable age gave her national prominence and brought her many messages of various kinds. Grandmother Bell was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Gaumer and was born near Gilbert 5 November 1811. When 19 years of age on 30 June 1831 she was united in marriage to William Bell whose death occurred 30 January 1876 at the age of 67 years. A family of seven children were born to this union only three of whom survive her. They are Mrs Elizabeth Minick of Highland Township, George W Bell of this village and Jacob I Bell of Adams Township. Two children died in infancy and two sons Jared C and John R died after reaching manhood and being well advanced in years. At an early age Grandmother Bell united with the New Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church and continued a faithful member until the end of her long life. Her associations with this church date back for almost a century. She witnessed the first burial in the church cemetery when a little girl and distinctly remembered the laying to rest of the body in the first new made grave. As the years passed away she awakens to the realization that she alone was left of the early members and a younger generation had taken their place, but the church was still a sacred spot to her and as long as she was able she was found a faithful worshipper in her accustomed pew. Grandmother bell lived a simple life free from the fastness found in modern society. Cheerfulness and contentment were two of her most noble attributes and no doubt contributed much to her long life as well as her clear mind and good deeds which brought blessings to those around her. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the New Hope Lutheran Church by Rev J J S Rumbarger and the remains were interred Her parents were Jacob Gaumer and Elizabeth Sturtz

This obituary appeared in The Daily Signal, Zanesville, Ohio Monday 16 February 1885 OBITUARY Anthony Slater Died on Thursday 12 February 1885, Mr Anthony Slater of Adams Township at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 10 days. The first thing that will attract the readers attention is the great age to which Mr Slater lived. It is the lot of few in his age of the world to approach as near the centenarian limit as did Mr Slater. In his case it was indeed a good grand old age. His life not only in its length but in its usefulness, it integrity and in the substantial good accomplished for himself and for those about him is excelled by very few if any. His life was that of a farmer and in pursuit of his avocation he acquired a goodly share of this world substance. Anthony Slater was born on 2 October 1789 in Loudoun County, Virginia eight miles below Harpers Ferry. here he spent his life up to manhood's years. he received a common school education in both English and German. He was married in 1812 to Miss Susannah Vensel of the same county. Mr Slater was a soldier of the war of 1812 entering the service on the same day on which the British burned the Capital at Washington. He was at Baltimore during the attack and siege of that place and Ft McHenry being one of the advance guards of the American army when the British landed there. In the year 1816 Mr Slater and his wife moved to Ohio. The first place of settlement was on what is now known as the Culbertson farm in Washington Township this county. Here they lived about one year. They then moved to the farm on which they lived all the remainder of their lives in Adams Township. This township however had at that time no existence and Mr Slater's farm was included in Monroe Township. It was in 1824 that a new township was formed of parts of Monroe and Madison and named in honor of John Q Adams who was then a candidate for President. That portion of country was then an almost unbroken wilderness and Mr Slater had no neighbor nearer than three or four miles. His mill and post office were at Zanesville, eighteen miles away. He was the first permanent settler in the territory now included in Adams Township. In his long and useful life a number of positions of trust were bestowed upon him. He was the first Justice of the Peace in Adams Township and held that office for twenty-one years in succession. he was once a candidate for County Commissioner on the Democratic ticket but was defeated as the Whigs carried the county that year. He always enjoyed to the fullest extent the esteem and confidence of his fellow citizens. The children of Mr Slater consisted of six sons. Of these but three are now living. They are among the most substantial and highly esteemed citizens of that section of the county. On 31 July 1878 Mr Slater's wife died at the age of 85 years. This made for Mr and Mrs Slater's married life of 66 years and continuos residence together at one place of 61 years. Mrs Slater was buried 1 August 1878 in the family burying ground in New Hope Cemetery. In politics Mr Slater was always an unswerving democrat. His not being a land owner when a citizen of Virginia debarred him from voting in that state. But during his long residence in this state he never voted any but the Democratic ticket. he has also been a constant patron of the Democratic paper of this county under its various names from the old Messenger to the present volume of the Signal. Mr Slater and his wife were during nearly all the many years of their residence in this state members of the New Hope Lutheran Church. They were consistent and exemplary in their Christian lives, instant in season and out of season in all religious duties the same one day with another. They both lived well rounded up lives of true Christian faith and doubtless are the blessed who die in the Lord. Mr Slater retained his strength and vigor in his old age to a remarkable degree. The last year or two of his life were however marked by a decline which foreshadowed a failure to live out a full century. About two before his death when walking about the premises he fell upon the ice and badly fractured one of his thigh bones. he never rallied from the shock of that injury and gradually sank until the day on which he died. He was buried on last Saturday the 14th in New Hope Cemetery by the side of his wife. The funeral sermon was preached by the Pastor Rev J Weber to a large assemblage of relatives and friends. The descendants of Mr Slater comprise three generations and the family relationship is quite extensive.

This obituary appeared in The Daily Signal, Zanesville, Ohio Wednesday 18 February 1885 OBITUARY Bainter Otsego 16 February 1885 Seldom has our community been called upon to mourn the loss of one more universally respected and beloved than was our friend and neighbor Mrs John B Bainter who departed this life February the fourth 1885. Mrs Bainter whose maiden name was Margaret Gaumer was born 28th October 1813 in Adams Township this county became a member of the Lutheran Church at New Hope when seventeen years of age, was united in marriage to Mr John B Bainter one year later and moved on the farm in this township where they have since continued to live until her death. She was the mother of seven children, four sons and three daughters six of whom are now living. Mrs Bainter was not only a professed follower of the Savior but we think a true one as exhibited all through her life. She was noted for her generosity and kindness to all and these noble traits she seems to have handed down to her children. A more affectionate family we have never met. Mrs Bainter lived to see all her children useful members of the church, all married and respected in the community in which they live. They did what they could to prolong the life of their dear mother but her time had come and after a five week illness she was called to her long home. None will miss her more than her aged companion with whom she lived in happy wedlock for over fifty-three years. Her obsequies were conducted by the Rev Weber who selected these words from the first epistle of John, third chapter and second verse: "Beloved now are we the sons of God and it doth not yet appear what we shall be, but know that when we shall appear, we shall be like him for we shall see him as he is". Her remains were then interred in the Cemetery at the New Hope Lutheran Church, there to await the resurrection Morn. A Friend and Neighbor

Anders, born July 31, 1929 in Zanesville, OH passed away, Sunday, December 31, 2006 at Kettering Medical Center. Cliff served in the United States Army from March 1951 to March 1953. He has been a resident of Kettering since 1962 and worked for Spiegel Inc. for 18 years. Cliff had his private pilot license and enjoyed flying. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and May Anders and his brother, Charles. Cliff is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Ruth. In this past month I saw in the daily obits of a passing of an Archie Burrier. It seems that I have heard of a Archie before in the family line, but can not find him. I never saw the obit with any family info in it. I thought I kept the listings from that day, but apparently I did not. Does anyone have knowledge of him and who his parents, etc., were? I don't have much on the Nash's but supposedly Hannah's Father was Jonathan Nash and that she may have been born in New Jersey or New York. The Vandenbark/Conine Families were from New Jersey. They are also connected to the Thrap family.
