I know birth records were not kept in Ohio until around 1908. What about marriage records? Were any kept in the early 1800's. If so how would I find a marriage record for James H. Mundy and Rosetta Leonard on 2 May 1812. I'm trying toconfirm, if possible the information I have, which is not much. Following is what I have in addition to the above. James H. Mundy, arrived at age 16 in 1803 at Zanesville,along with his brother John Henry Mundy, 14, from near Metuchen, NJ. Both boys worked as carpenters but when James H Mundy married Rosetta Leonard, the couple engaged in the buying and selling of property in and around Muskingum County. We have seen records of a number of such deeds both for purchase of property, and reselling it. They came from county records in the courthouse there in Zanesville. Apparently Rosetta and her mother had money enough to allow them to do this, because most carpenters did not earn much in that time. Both these young men came from near Woodbridge in New Jersey We know that James H. Mundy had at least six children, and possibly more, as follows: Charles Edward MUNDY, born in 1817 (no date specified). May MUNDY, born in 1832 in Muskingum County, Ohio (probably on her parents farm near Adamsville.) James MUNDY Jr. born 1834 Mary MUNDY born 1842 Margaret E. MUNDY born 1853 Rosetta MUNDY was born 1856 I realize that this is a lot of years over which to spread the family, but that is the data we have. I am wondering if anyone has information which could confirm the above, or other information about this family. We are aware that many records in the Muskinum County courthouse confirm the fact of their buying and selling property. We have reason to believe that it was Rosetta's money (or her mother's) which helped them get into this business. We have records of several such transactions in their early years. I know that they bought and sold property during much of their lives. I know that there are quite a number of records existe of deeds in which they signed as Husband and Wife. I've seen copies of several of these, so I know the people are real. James was my GGG Grandfather. I am also looking for any information about their son, *Charles Edward Mundy*, who married *Margaret Ann Brown*, daughter of Isaac Moore. Brown. She had a cousin who worked for the Times Review back in that time. The family of Isaac Brown came to Zanesville with five children, and we think he had eleven children altogether. My information says Charles Edward Mundy and Margaret Ann Brown were married there in Zanesville, but we have not found a date for that marriage. If someone has researched the Isaac Moore Brown family, that date may be recorded there. We know that they had one daughter there in Zanesville, named Laura V. Mundy, then they moved to Paris, Bourbon, Kentucky, where they remained the rest of their lives except for occasional visits back to Zanesville. We know they visited once, because they were enumerated in a Census there on one of their trips. Charles Edward Mundy was a carpenter also, as were his male children. I am interested in any information about any part or all of the above families, and would also appreciate any informaton regarding John Henry Mundy who was a brother of the James Mundy above. He was two years younger. I think his wife may have been Susannah Jarvis, but cannot confirm that name. We have seen one report that he or his son went to Washington, Iowa, but we've found no one of whom to inquire in that area. Any information any of your readers may find and share will be greatly appreciated I live in Texas, and researcing in Zanesville is difficult from here! Bob Little blittle7904@sbcglobal.net P. S. I think a daughter is buried beside his grave, but cannot confirm that at this time. Dear List, I'm searching for information about James H. Mundy, buried in Lull Cemetery, near Adamsville, Ohio. Came to Zanesville 1803, Married there to Rosetta Leonard 1812. Six children known, possibly more. Bought and sold real property over many years. Born in Middlesex County, New Jersey in 1788, Arrived 1803 in Zanesville, along with his brother John Henry Mundy. Worked as a Carpenter until his marriage to Rosetta Leonard, daughter of Phoebe Leonard, who came in 1803 from Middlesx County, NJ. Rosetta Leonard's father Nathaniel Leonard, fought in the Revolution, as Captain. Found many records in courthouse there of Deeds both for purchase and sale of real estate. We think they had at least six children, possibly others. We know that he is buried in Lull Cemetery near Adamsville, where he lived in his mid to late years. Lived in Zanesville prior to moving there. His son, Charles Edward Mundy, married Margaret Ann Brown, daughter of Isaac Moore Brown there in Zanesville. He and his family came from Loudoun County, Virginia about the time that they began building River Boats on the Muskingum River south of the city of Zanesville. Two of his sons became captains of those boats after helping to build a number of them Daniel Thornton Brown, one of the sons, owned or had interest in one or more of those riverboats, as well as being the captain of one, I am interested in any information about either the James Mundy family, or the Isaac M. Who were James Delaney's parents? Was he from Muskingum County, Ohio? Per the FHC, James married Emma Bisant 10 Nov, 1864 in Muskingum County, Ohio. Also my cousin visited Muskingum County years ago and found this marriage listed in Vol 3 for years 1848-1865. My Bisants were from Muskingum County, but this is the only record I have of an Emma. I have found a James Delany in the 1860 US Fed Census, South Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. At that time this James was 19 years old. His parents were Robert and Margaret, with a sister Mary, and a brother, George. This possibly could be the James Delaney I am looking for. But what happened to him and Emma?
